Gaslighting itself is now a criminal offence Al and has been since 2015 so no need for it to necessarily involve physical violence. That said, the problem of going down this route is twofold-firstly, getting the victim themselves to report it is hugely beneficial but most are reluctant to do so and secondly, the process is normally painfully slow. Hence your suggestion remains very tempting. Unfortunately, it then puts you on the wrong side of the law.

Controlling behaviour is often linked with narcissism and narcissists love attention-any attention- so taking such steps could also play into their hands. Hard as it us, the one thing they hate is being ignored. A fire needs both fuel and oxygen, take away either and the spark is useless. All that said, of course, they must still be made to pay the consequences for their actions and prevented somehow from repeating it.

I have not had to encounter anything first hand but I have friend who knows someone with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). It seems like a tough gig as they can come dependent on individuals and do not recognise that there may be anyone else (this is a mum with 2 kids and a husband!). They are constantly texting, calling and seeking attention and acknowledgement, quite like a child does.

The guy in question is in his thirties and is also autistic so there must be a link somewhere, along with how they have been brought up.

I don't know too much about it personally but I really do feel for anyone that is involved in this kind of relationship, it is not easy for anyone concerned.
