    Anyone on here for the

    Government pension

    I'm 65 and won't get my pension until next year when I'm 66 .

Remember you have to apply 3 months before you hit 66 or you will lose out .

How many years before you get your state pension?

I'm a few weeks away from 50 and believe I get my pension at 67 or 68.

I doubt very much I will live that long though.

That's what they want Deedon they want us to die before we get our pension .

If that happens our partners should get a lump sum out of the huge amount you put in over the decades of working..

It's a bit wrong that money gets lost into the system.

Yes DD we need to apply 3 months before rather than on your birthday month .

You get a reminder from the authorities, and complete a simple online form.

You lose nothing if you don’t apply, in fact I think that counts as a deferment, in which case a rate of interest is applied to deferred payments until a formal application is made. You can also choose to defer if you are lucky enough to be able to afford it, and interest is added to this until you choose to take it.

    Forget the “scaremongering”.

One auditor that used to visit us was 74, and was proud of the fact at he’d never claimed his pension, and continued to work. He’ll die before he gets the entitlement. His attitude was straight out of Tebbit’s 1980s speechifying, and I once threatened to end the visit and chuck the fûcker out of the building.

    Thanks for clearing that up.Vintage.

The info I got was from a financial adviser. You'd have thought he would have known his stuff.

If you haven’t already done it, register with gov.uk where all the info, including current pension rates, advantages of deferment, your NI history etc are available. The DVLA option even lets you pay your VED, and I got a message last week about another DVLA service about to be added to their offer which I must investigate.
