That my father in law Brian hasn’t taken a breath on this planet.

He passed away yesterday afternoon after a 15 year fight against dementia, a more determined character you’d never meet, he fought to the last breath.

For the past couple of weeks he’s been at death’s door and in a seemingly comatose state.

On Tuesday we cut our main annual holiday in Cornwall short after getting a call from his nursing home and we rushed back to get to his care home in Bilston that night.

On Wednesday morning he declined further so my wife rushed to his bedside with her sister and still this proud man battled on.

Eventually my wife decided to sit on his bed and hold his hand, he had been so frail you were almost frightened to touch him .

She gently held his hand and for the first time in over two weeks he opened his eyes wide and looked into her beautiful face and a few seconds later whilst still looking at her he finally let go.

It was like he needed to see her one last time and needed the reassuring in her eyes to let himself go, if you knew my wonderful wife you’d understand, she’s the most unbelievably special of people, an Angel on earth.

The same situation occurred with her mum six years ago, after spending hours watching her struggle my wife sat on her bed, held her hand and told her it was okay to let go and she passed in seconds.

She’s been such a wonderful daughter to them both, I can’t think of a more perfect ending, the last thing they both saw on this earth was their daughter gazing lovingly into their eyes.

If I could choose my ending it would be the same.

To think though, he started in the 20’s and we’re almost in the mid 20’s yet again…….we none of us can live forever but some people are around for so long you just don’t expect the day like yesterday to come.

RIP Brian, a bloody physically and mentally hard man and a great father and grandfather……you deserve the eternal peace you are now at old lad.

My condolences to you and yours and especially to your wife. I understand from your previous posts that his past few years have been difficult for you all but hope you can take some solace from the final moments he was able to have with your wife. Take care Mick.

It sounds like he brought up a wonderful daughter, and that's a huge lifetime achievement right there.

I got incredibly lucky when I met my wife, she’s one of those people who literally everyone likes.

I dread the day my three grown up kids are without her.
