Swansea v Bournemouth (Round 2 Carabao Cup)

Here we go then, some welcome relief from our Championship struggles and a chance for the new players to make their mark.
It’s Premier League Bournemouth at the Swansea.com Stadium tomorrow night and a good test for our players.
As previous winners of this competition one hopes that this match is not taken lightly by the Swans.
Bournemouth have several injuries in their squad but can obviously field a strong side. Ex-Swan Jamal Lowe and Welsh Internationals Kieffer Moore and Chris Mepham being well known to us all.
Not so well known is their new manager from Rayo Villecano, Andoni Iraola, appointed in June 23. They are yet to win after three games and lost at home on Saturday, 1-2 against Spurs.
Swans are also without a win in the league.
    Should be a good game!

    FT: Swans 2 Bournemouth 3

It was a surprisingly low turnout from the fickle Swans fans for a match against Premier League opposition, under 9k.
We more than matched them first half and led by a Grimes penalty after 9’, but we knew one goal wasn’t going to be enough.
    HT: 1-0

Three super subs at half-time completely turned the game in Bournemouth’s favour and they proceeded to blitz our goal. Brooks on our left was unmarked for the equaliser ten minutes in and both our flanks looked wide open. Traore gave them the lead on 68’ and it looked game over, but sub Paterson scored on 79’ to equalise against the run of play.
It was heartbreak for the Swans in injury time as sub Christie fired home the winner in the 91’.
A better showing from Swansea but the same weaknesses in defence letting us down again, and it was only exacerbated by key defender Wood being benched.
Obviously our best players are being sold on again in the quest for big profits for our owners. Twenty goals a season Piroe already gone to rivals Leeds and now it’s looking like England U-21 International centre-back Wood is on his way to rivals Southampton, with a last minute scramble in the bargain basement to find inferior replacements.

Defensive errors once again costing us. Naughton coming in for Wood didn’t help much as we struggled to contain Bournemouth, especially in the second half. Christie’s shot going through Darling’s legs for the winner.

Caved in at the end, same old Swansea. How many times did we do that last season.
