    Queens v Montrose

Well on paper a very winable game and it would be great to get 4 wins in a row and entice a few more of the Dumfries public through the turnstiles ............... but then can we keep eleven men on the pitch for 90 minutes ? ...................... will Marvins mind be on an unlikely return to Easter Road ............ will we have signed that 6ft 4in 30 goals a season Joe Jordan type player ............... these and other questions to be answered by 5pm Saturday.

Four Red Cards already is not a good look tbh so hopefully Marvin will address this situation pronto.

Thank god Montrose have let Rory McAllister return to his former club Peterhead as he always gave us problems.

Hard to say what I made of the game today. First half we were so inept it was hard to believe and the defense was such a soft touch. No tackles going in, second to everything with no player looking interested. Apparently Ambrose had been dropped from the starting line up for being late but one guys absence alone does not explain that first half. The three half time substitutes changed the impetus and suddenly Montrose we on the back foot and at 2-2 it looked as though Queens would go on and win the game. Then McKechnie was taken off so we lost the out ball up the left side and the impetus was lost and they waltzed past a stationery defense to slot a third. Yes we did have enough chance to equalise but overall this was a very strange game but ultimately the soft heart of the defence is our persistent Achilleas heel which will have to be addressed if we are to launch a credible promotion bid.

Totally agree Spike. Our defence leaks goals for fun. We seem incapable of closing down opposition forwards and allow far too many free headers from crosses and corners. The first half today was a shambles, too many backward and sideways passes and it was 40 minutes before we had our first attempt on goal. The good 20 minute spell at the start of the second half cannot disguise the fact we are ineffectual for large periods of matches. We won't achieve anything this season until such times as we can put in consistent performances for 90 minutes, whether the current problems lie with the manager or the players is anybody's guess.

Interesting take from Marvin's post match interview about someone, thought to be Ambrose, being late. If this was the case and he was dropped from the starting line up then it could be argued that this cost us the game yesterday as his enforced introduction at half game Queens a chance of points which ultimately failed. Ambrose is reported to be a close friend of Bartley so this must strain that relationship and Queens started the game with an unexpected absentee which must have thrown the defensive organisation big time as we all witnessed.
This will test Bartley's management skills and we will see how this transpires in the games to come but Ambrose has to assess his commitment to Queens, the manager and us the fans. For me we can't get Jack Brydon back into that back line quick enough.

Dropping Ambrose from the starting line up for being late is hardly punishment when he's being brought on at half time. He should either be dropped fully or not at all. To bring your best defender on at when the game is all but gone is effectively cutting off your nose to spite your face.

There's no getting away from the fact the performance was inept at best. Most fans will take players not being quite good enough as that is the managers job to manage that issue as best as he can however the lack of effort and guile in the first half was startling.

Great spot - on post the first two goals were schoolboy errors and the continued sideways crab passes is very frustrating to watch. With the starting 11 plus 9 on the bench and Botterill, Brydon etc missing how big a squad is Marvin wanting in
size and can Queens afford it ?

Money can’t be an issue as I noticed on Friday there’s £10,000 in the Tanner Fund and they’ve not approached them for it as yet.

The first half was nothing short of shocking and has to rank as one of the worst queens performances I have seen for many many years. As 352 states, no effort, no imagination, nobody willing to take responsibility, players not tracking runs, centre half’s failing to attack the ball, midfielders not able to string two passes together, full back constantly allowing themselves to get closed down. I could go on and on. For 20 minutes at the start of the second half we looked the part with the change of shape and conellys introduction. Suddenly there was urgency in the play and passes were getting found and we get back into the game, but at 2.2 they stick gardyne on Lee and we fell out of it again.
I do not blame the manager for any of this. Not one bit. This is down to the players! The manager made all the moves to influence the game, changing the shape, using a load of subs, but players who show a total lack of effort should be fined by the club and there weren’t many on that pitch, particularly in the first half, would be picking up wages this week. Some should be absolutely ashamed of themselves
