The warning signs around the rapidly failing state of our prisons-including Wandsworth-have been there for years and no-one can claim that the government have not been aware of this as several reports have repeatedly highlighted the issues. The rot may have begun before the terms of the present Conservative government but for the "party of law and order" , the Tories have certainly done f all to improve the situation. The present Khalife thing was just waiting to happen. Like so many of our public services, the whole system needs a complete overhaul.
