    O/T: He's a top man is Pep

So Pep Guardiola admits that he's been a letdown as far as Kalvin Phillips is concerned. He hasn't given him the attention and advice that Bielsa did.
Phillips, a fantastic prospect when he was a Leeds player, has looked ordinary and injury-prone after all the millions were spent on bringing him to City.
An embarrassment of riches? I suspect that the way clubs like City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manure throw their money around is the major reason that turns people away from the Premier League. Whilst clubs like Chelsea and Man U give substance to the saying that fools and their money are soon parted, Man City are effectively turning the top division into a one-club affair.
The only place that Guardiola's strategies are properly tested is in Europe. Far from proving himself one of the managing greats, it's hard to see how he could fail at City, except he has done with Phillips.

Has he failed at City with Phillips? Phillips is / was a key player for England, and people want to know what has happened. Pep saw what happened at Manure when Ten Haag said Sancho wasn't performing and I suspect he didn't want the hassle himself, so deflected. The truth is Phillips isn't as good as his other options and hasn't developed as well as, say Greaish or Foden, so Pep doesn't need to give him much attention. He simply doesn't need him, and Man City can afford to just keep him in the reserves.

As Kent says, he isn't good enough to make the first team. He probably knew that but signed anyway. Now he's sitting in the reserves while earning millions. I'm sure he could push for a transfer if he wanted to.

    Hardly a tragedy, is it.

They never needed Phillips in the first place. It was a scattergun approach to recruitment that, after a decent showing at the Euros, Man City wanted the shiny new toy even if it didn't fit in the toy box. Chelsea are the same, they've spent over a billion pounds in players in a year, all on 8 year contracts to get around FFP but no way will they get a performance or their money back. I'm sure top level football right now is either a money laundering front or they just have more Money than sense, wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit of both
