    Only a tree?

There are enough saddening stories in the news as it is what with various atrocities being committed across the world still, the war in Ukraine, the flooding in Libya and the stabbing of a 15 year old girl and so some might question why people are getting worked up about the felling overnight of the famed Sycamore Gap Tree in Northumberland but to me this seemingly deliberate and senseless act is indicative of the behaviour of too many today. The tree was an important local landmark and I totally understand why so many are upset by this, just as the destruction of the Crooked House angered many in the Black Country. Pure vandalism doubtless done simply because it could be done and knowing that the act would upset others. In our next village is a green and a duck pond. The ducks are wont to cross the road and everyone knows this and slows down to allow them to do so but recently some-one deliberately seems to have driven at them, killing several before speeding off. Again, this was a deliberate act of pointless spite. This sort of c unt ishness both saddens me and -as Mick would say-makes my piss boil.

I’m not a tree hugger but this tree is historic in its stature and a ten year custodial sentence needs dishing out.

The sentences for even taking down any tree with a TPO on them on your property are prohibitive so this act of vandalism should be treated severely.

Sadly councils have no money so any destruction of trees even with a TPO is derisory compared usually to what a developer wants to put there instead. As for the t wat you killed the ducks in the village as per Omeg’s post - pity he was not pulled from his car and battered black and blue and then the car severely damaged!

16 year old boy arrested! The parents of any child under 18 should be massively fined for any criminal damage. The boy should be sent to a minors prison for six months for this.

A child is the product of the parent. Had I carried out any criminal damage my late father would have given me a belt!

This is on my doorstep, last night I was playing pool on the very table Kevin Costner played pool on whilst he was staying here when Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves was being filmed (the tree was featured in the film). Many thousands of tourists came to see it every year, it was a truly famous landmark right on Hadrian's Wall, a world heritage site which visitors from all over the world come to walk along. The toe rag responsible wants chopped in half with a chainsaw.

The sociopathic council in Plymouth chopped down over 100 trees in the city centre in a military operation during the early hours so that the locals couldn't complain just so they can build a few shops and a nice pavement

'The chopping down of 119 Plymouth city centre trees heralded 10 days of chaos which saw public protests and tears, children’s artworks removed, celebrities wade in, a council leader falling on his sword and a humiliating defeat for the council in court"

If the 16 year old is indeed responsible, it will no doubt be blamed on his mental health and deprivation. They won’t name him either; he should be named and shamed.

Name and shame the parents as it’s their product until he’s classed as an adult!

Oh yes another mental health case! No wonder those who really have mental health issues and can’t afford to go private wait an eternity for a specialist!

Kids can be charming darlings when they want to be Al and the complete opposite when no-one's watching, you can't always lay the blame at the door of the parents who most likely will be ashamed & angry at such a senseless act. I was up there myself this year, such a beautiful and historic place now brutally vandalised - little tw@t wants naming & shaming, clean chewing gum off the streets in an orange boiler suit for the next 12 months.
