    Sunak’s smoking ban.

Another ridiculous policy initiative, shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic once again.

By raising the legal age every year up until the point that you need to be 110 to smoke is a badly thought out idea.

All he’s going to do is create a black market for cigarettes and for the Treasury to lose the £10 billion it takes in from smoking each year.

I abhor smoking, it killed my dad before he was 68 and is the likely reason for his father’s brain cancer that also killed him.

People should be allowed to make their own decisions on this stuff when they become a legal adult at 18, for good or for bad, we’re supposed to be a free society.

    I’m just praying Sunak isn’t contemplating a w a n k I n g ban.

I disagree Mick, yes there will always be a determined and probably sizeable minority who take up the habit but overall the number of smokers will decline as it becomes something people choose not to do or more importantly start to do.

As a former smoker, had cigarettes not been so ubiquitous I'm sure I wouldn't have bothered.

I think this initiative is merely a diversion - all the big problems being ignored- inflation, illegal migration , net zero but out of the blue a smoking initiative that no one had thought about and will take 60 years to reach full implementation added to it economic illiteracy

WE can debate the health issues of tobacco but I believe it should be a free choice, How long before restrictions on junk food, chocolate , alcohol?
WE are walking blindfolded into an authoritarian state- " it will be for your own good!" that's what they'll tell you
The estimated cost to NHS for all smoking caused conditions is some £6 billion pa.
The tax take from tobacco is £10 billion so where does the £4 billion come from- taxes, reduced services or more borrowing?

It's another step in state control and more to come never doubt it!!!

Here’s another ban that should be brought in, advertising for betting companies, ban all of it, like tobacco advertising was banned.

I don’t think we can properly cost the effect smoking has on a society. How many people know someone who either died or needed years of care associated with smoking? I can name a fair few.

That’s care that could be redistributed to others who don’t smoke.

I mean it is just a little white stick in the gob and it is about time we outlawed it for younger folk. Most long term smokers will tell you to never start.
