4-1 sounds about right to me too. Hope we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.

We were! Maybe doesn’t matter that much but that’s a shocking result.

It's the Derby Way! We can't make our mind up if we're good or crap. Crap won this time. It's a circus supporting DCFC, you set off on the roller coaster not sure what you're gonna get... today it was the big dipper and boy have we dipped again.
They're a bunch of bloody clowns!

I had a feeling we might slip up here, not sure what went wrong but hey it did, we were certainly no match for Crewe's ambition, on the night they deserved it and sometimes you have to accept that the other team were better.

I'm not bothered, no cup games to distract from the task of getting promoted, so its down to Warne to get it done!

There will, doubtless, be the usual OTT comments all over "social media". It's the Cup. Shocks, both great and small, happen.

1968. 2nd division Derby drew 0-0 away against 1st division Chelsea in the League Cup. Beat them 3-1 in the return.
Drew 0-0 away at Everton and beat them 1-0 in the return.
Then drew 0-0 at home to 3rd division Swindon and then lost the return 1-0.
Swindon went on to beat Arsenal 3-1 at Wembley in the final.

Last night isn't any different to our giant killings or those of Swindon in the 68/69 League Cup campaign.

I'm neither happy not unhappy with the result. In between. Would have been nice to go on a run but we now don't get extra games in which key players could get injured. To use the old adage, we can now concentrate on the League.

Maybe we should run out to a medley of 10cc and Judy Collins in future.

Not sure last night constitutes a ‘giant killing’ anymore, MA and Swale is right, ‘sometimes you have to accept that the other team were better’...but surely not when you’ve fielded a strong side with promotion ambitions from L1 at home to an average L2 side. Didn’t go last night but it all feels a little demoralising. Will the real Derby County please step forward?

If average is being only outside the automatic places on goal difference is average, give me average. They are one of the top goalscoring sides in the top 4 divisions. Level with Ipswich on 36 in the League and only Stockport with 37 have scored more. They are a good side who led us 2-0 in the first tie. Came back from 1 down to win 1-3 last night. If they're average L2 then, based on these head to heads, we might just be L2 relegation fodder.

They're a good side. As are we. We lack consistency. Whether that's down to complacency when we play "lesser" teams or simply no more than inconsistency being our only consistent quality is the riddle PW et al need to solve. This squad is easily good enough on paper to go up. That quality needs to be translated into consistent performances on the pitch.

We're still in the BSM Trophy and could still get to Wembley but that won't happen if we fail to perform against sides. We could go up but we need to get that consistency.

Onwards and upwards. Don't get "over the moon" at good performances, don't get down at lesser ones. We're going to get both throughout the season. We're also going to get some average to mediocre stuff as well. Most clubs do. We'll be back, we'll do well but we have to learn to accept the highs and the lows and keep our feet on the floor.

Yep...fair point about their position in L2, but they’re only two points ahead of Notts County who we recently beat comprehensively in the ‘meaningless cup’.

Tbh I couldn’t care less about the ‘also rans trophy’...doubt I’d go to Wembley even if we got there...but to be knocked out of the other two, especially the FA Cup, before the ‘big boys’ have even entered is a little disappointing.

Appreciate we might have struggled through only to get knocked out by Millwall in the 3rd Round and so it probably makes little difference, but so much is about momentum and we seem unable to maintain ours for more than two or three matches.
