I’d go for Martin O’Neill - skillful but energetic midfielder who could give the defence some much-needed cover. At times he felt like a one-man team in our 1983-84 relegation season from the top flight.

He did indeed, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t our best player - along with John Chiedozie and Trevor Christie - in the relegation season. I suspect the career-ending injury at Notts would have darkened his view of us over the years.
