Think he was great for us and gave us his all. Very good player but with flaws (lack of pace particularly)- played in the right system he is great.

Was also England’s player of the tournament when we went close in the Euros.

Will be hard for him at West Ham as won’t be fully match fit and being dropped into a team that is struggling.

And there is the key hopey , IF played in the right system which was never gonna happen at citeh , at the time I did wonder if it was the right decision for him but you can hardly blame him for wanting to go there.

Not sure if this is true or bull but apparently West Ham offered 60 million but he told the board he was only interested in going to citeh which if true cost us a few quid on the transfer fee.

I thank him for his efforts but he's now the past , should receive a good welcome at ER if our paths should ever cross again.

It was also more complicated as he signed a new contract when he could have left a couple of seasons before but the rumour was the club said he could leave when a decent offer was made and I suspect he was given a bit of latitude in any ‘agreement’ as to where he went.

Emotion? Yes. Jealousy? A VERY definite NO. I do t have his undoubted footballing skills so how can I be jealous?

For as long as he played for Leeds he may have given his all, but as a relatively yiung man he had the potential, if true to his protestations of loyalty, to become a true legend of LUFC. Instead he leaves, for mere money and a predictable future warming an Etihad bench. How in earth can you characterise the move to City as "promotion" when it has resulted in next to no 1st team club football and about tgwe same level of involvement at international level?

I doubt if the player cares what anyone says abwiut him, certainly not from posts here, favourable or otherwise.

I have to agree with WTF here, our club did turn him into the player he his today, MB definitely made him a better player, I do remember the groans and boo’s when he was picked for 1st team in his early starts. When he did become ‘Mr Leeds’ he was turned into almost royalty walking about our city. There is no way he should have left us when he did, at least another season, he would have become better and the money for him much higher, if that’s what he wanted? Leaving Leeds he just became another player, a step back imo to his status at Leeds. The club needed him more at that time than he needed the cash, he must have known this?
He left us, he wasn’t forced away. Good bye, good luck and all that but there is others now and better imo to take his place.

His "performance" since leaving Leeds would suggest that he has a very limited "mental side" with equally limited capability to "stretch". Shame that.

He wasn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last to thump the badge and then leave, to many to name unfortunately, he helped get us to the premier league which wasn’t the case when we got relegated and nearly the whole team upped and ran.

Not a great day at the office, but the damage had been done in the first half, so hardly his fault.

Still seems to be a few steps off of his “A” game to me.

Hopefully he turns it around. I guess it’s not a view entirely shared on here, but I like the lad.
