Tricky…I don’t need a lesson on the difference between race and religion and neither do I have a lot of time for SOME of the teachings of Islam…any more than I do for SOME of the teachings of the Catholic/Christian Church.

Your dislike/hatred of Islam however is rooted in racism imo and your Islamophobia is nothing more than a very specific form of something very, very difficult to distinguish from racism.

We aren’t going to agree but there were other parts of our initial debate that you seem now to be distancing yourself from.

I’m honestly not having a go at your lifestyle choices…that’s up to you…but, depending on circumstance, presumably either you or your beloved will be adopting ‘immigrant status’ in the not too distant future. I wish you well but would suggest you steer well clear of of some of those you appear to admire once that happens.

I don’t believe you to be overtly racist but I do believe that little obsession of yours to be tinged with a sort of old fashioned racism that one usually finds in people who can't/won’t think things through. I don’t think of you like that so why not talk it through? Why does it matter what colour or creed a TV presenter is?

Not ‘tinged’ at all rA, I will say again, not only because it will hopefully put Swale in a rage but because it’s relevant, that my ‘family’ relationships, and those I recall from my schooldays, give me a series of experiences and perspectives that preclude me from what you would call ‘racism’. You’ll have to believe me on that. Disappointing response, AF. I’m not ‘supporting’ anyone. It’s a simple response and I have no real idea of what you’re referring to.
All I know is that I’ve seen you vaguely suggest that there are a disproportionate number of non white TV presenters. Frankly you should know better than to think I am offering personal support…despite all the ‘rear gunner’ crap over the years it’s not something I do.
I support or criticise opinions, not people, none of whom I know. My ideal is that we don’t even notice that a presenter is black, white, Asian, male, female, disabled…whatever and just judge them on their ability to….present!

Of course they aren't, but lets be clear about this. 80% of terror suspects in the UK under the watchful gaze of security are Muslim?

The polling was commissioned by Channel 4 for a documentary, What British Muslims Really Think, which is due to be broadcast on Wednesday presented by Phillips.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, he said: “On specific issues – families, ***uality, gender, attitudes towards Jews and on questions of violence and terrorism – the centre of gravity of British Muslim opinion is some distance away from the centre of gravity of everyone else’s opinion.

“One in six Muslims say they would like to live more separately, a quarter would like to live under sharia law. It means that as a society we have a group of people who basically do not want to participate in the way that other people [do].

“What we also found is that there is a correspondence between this desire to live separately and sympathy for terrorism. People who want to live separately are about twice as likely to say that they have sympathy for terrorist acts. Anybody, including most people in the Muslim community, would find that extremely worrying.”

Phillips said we should not be afraid of challenging Muslims on the core values of British society.

Why would you say that? There are people I tend to agree with…MA, mac, Sith, Swale (about politics but not fullbacks or PW) most notably and there are people I disagree with…Tricky (about most things), Guntery (likewise) and DCFC whatever he was called, but overwhelmingly I’ll judge things on the basis of opinion NOT personality. I can like what I know of people - eg you and GP (at his best) but still disagree with them - it’s seldom personal.
