Whilst it is sad to see the plight of a team like Torquay, there is clearly not enough local support for the club. It would be interesting to know how many supporters they would need through the turnstiles to remain viable. Should football in general be subsidising a local club where there is insufficient local interest?
I've seen Burnley play at Torquay twice, once in the old 4th division play-off semi-finals and on holiday a couple of years ago I took the wife down to see them play a game on a Saturday afternoon just before they got relegated from the Football League.

The local apathy was shocking to see. I said then their very existence was on the line.

Not exactly a hot bed of football Toquay is it, you can't for instance imagine their fans going into meltdown on social media because their keeper played a dodgy pass to the edge of the area, they'd just shrug their shoulders and go to the bar to get another pie and a pint.

You old romantic. I bet Mrs BT was swept off her feet by your gesture of taking her to see Torquay United!
