Just seen the news about the sad passing of Stan Bowles. A player in the George Best mode who was naturally talented but got deflected by drink, women and gambling. A pleasure to watch in his day. RIP

I remember a game in the late 70's....QPR were taking a corner kick in front of the BRE,and the crowd started singing "Where's your wife gone ? Where's your wife gone ? Where's your wife gone ? Stanley Bowles" to the tune of My Darling Clementine.....fair play to him,he faced the crowd, shrugged his shoulders, and laughed ....top bloke !

I was going to post the same.

1977 I think and a 1-1 draw, I seem to remember us equalising from a corner at your end, I was in the Smethwick that day.

I’m sure Ozzy accepted a half pint of Ansel’s from a fan that day as well!😏😍😎

Remember him too as one of the game's great characters as well as a great player. Whenever I'm tempted to think that I'm remembering the likes of him or other such players from the 70s through rather rose-tinted glasses, a search through you tube often proves that I shouldn't have doubted. Players may be technically a lot fitter now but not any more talented -and I do miss the extra entertainment value that some of these characters brought to the game! RIP Stan.
