Not forgetting the sad loss of Jason Turner as well. He must have been a big loss from behind the scenes.

As for tonight’s game I really do not know what to think. How we have conspired to lose to a team twice that have been bottom of the league nearly all season and have only won three other games in the league all season is sobering. We’ve also conceded nine goals to them. The warning was there at Sutton though on the opening day of our vulnerability and fragility out of possession and defending as a team. Six months later and we have conceded the second highest amount of goals in League Two and only one less than Sutton. It’s dragged us down when we have scored the highest number of goals in the league.

What this tells us is we attack like a league one team and defend like a national league team.

It was technical v physical tonight and once again the physical won the battle. It was also a case of who wanted it more, Sutton trying to stay up, or us trying to get in the playoffs. Hunger, heart and desire won.

Not so long ago we would complete 20-30 passes in a row and not make a single error. It was clean, smooth and tidy. Tonight we were struggling at times to make two or three without giving the ball away. There was a period in the second half where the ball was being played in our defensive third it was horrendously bad by both teams. Like an amateur game on the park where the ball just gets kicked and possession is lost to the opposition.

There are individual errors popping up all over the pitch in each game. We also have in game tactical and formation changes and flexibility which is a plan a,b and c.

SM really needed a win tonight but now we have had our third straight loss at home since 2016 so a new low under the Reedz Brothers.

SM is out of his depth in this league.

Just watched the Sutton goals back. I think without exaggeration this is a fair description:

1st goal - Nemane fails to win a tackle, Warner fails to stop the cross and Jodi Jones gets beaten to the ball on the back stick.

2nd goal - Baldwin shows he's learned absolutely nothing from his similarly sloppy error against Shrewsbury earlier in the season, and the goalkeeper doesn't do much to save Aden's blushes either

3rd goal - Not enough pressure from Crowley (for one) to stop the forward ball from midfield, Rawlinson done like a kipper by a simple change of direction from Harry Smith, Nemane ambling back and spectating just behind the play when a short sprint could have given him a chance of helping Rawlo, goalkeeper probably unlucky his parry went straight to a Sutton player.

4th goal - two attackers (jones and Macca) trying and failing to do a defender's job against their winger who beats them easily on the edge of the box causing Crowley to panic and dangle a leg for the penalty.

The consistent theme is players who aren't natural or very good defenders showing exactly why they aren't.

In one sense it's positional: our wing-backs are wingers who simply don't have the defensive skills and instincts to cope under attack

In one sense it's personnel: almost every game there are centre-halves - who are supposed to be able to defend - either getting straight up beaten man-to-man by their opponent or literally gifting possession in ridiculous areas.

We need to get back to basics. Every game starts at 0-0, make sure it doesn't get any worse. Get that right and our attacking talent will usually get us at least one goal.

I still think that for whatever reason, that the tactics are plain and simply wrong. Bad tactics can make reasonable players look awful and that, in turn, dents their confidence, which makes them worse.

It is the job of the backroom staff to alleviate the stress on the players, by changing the tactics and doing something more straightforward.

Football is a simple game, played by simple people - try and complicate it and look what you get.

Yeah, seems like a fair summary. It's not rocket science. The goals we concede are generally either gross individual errors or a collective inability to halt / break down dangerous attacks.

I think SM came in and ruled by ingratiation, seems like the players have gotten off lightly.
There is no technical or tactical solution to what's happening. We need the manager and players to be as angry as the fans.
Time to kick some ass and for the mollycoddling to end.

I think booing only helps when you are Harry Smith or on the other team. I can't see how it will motivate anyone associated with the club. It's not a helpful practice but it's bound to happen. And it being unhelpful doesn't make it unacceptable either. Players just have to accept it might happen ignore it and get on with doing their best. The only way the booing will stop is with an improvement on the pitch.
