Montague has been here since the start with the new owners. He will likely have been responsible for the SM appointment. I think the brothers fund the club and put their trust in him to deliver.
I might be wrong but prefer not to blame them as their money saved us.

This is probably correct.
I like the American sports type model of general manager/team coach separation of duties. I think it's served us pretty well over the Bros reign at the club - overall, and not without quite a few glaring failures (although risk is a part of it).
There is a question the bros need to ask though regarding this latest team coach appointment. We appoint a coach and he'll know the score, regarding who's responsible for what. That doesn't mean there won't be conflict. I think some friction about which players to bring in goes with the terrority.
So compliance with the system, amenability, a lack of threat to the recruitment team should never be in the criteria for appointing a head coach. Was it this time? Did we go for the grateful, lower league candidate because he'd be letting recruitment do its thing without interference?
If that was factored in at all, then the hire and the thinking behind it did the club a massive disservice.
We can't know. I hope it wasn't. But it is something that the people at the very top of the club should be asking themselves. If it's only to eliminate the idea.
