You wouldn't believe the injury toll could get worse.

Botman out for 9 months. That means we won't have his services until next year.

Newcastle United defender Sven Botman will be out of action for up to nine months after picking up an ACL injury in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday evening. The Dutchman will go under the knife to fix the issue, leaving him sidelined until the business end of 2024.

Newcastle confirmed the news on Wednesday, releasing a statement which read: "Sven Botman will undergo surgery next week after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City. Following further assessment, a scan has confirmed that he sustained an injury to his ACL during Saturday's match and he is expected to return to action within six-to-nine months.

"The Dutch centre-back initially sustained a knee injury in September 2023 and elected for a non-surgical rehabilitation plan - a decision which saw him return to action in December. Everyone at Newcastle United wishes Sven a full and speedy recovery."

    Sven Botman

Out for 9 months with ACL injury, this season gets better and better. He has looked off it since he came back. What are the chances that the medical team not dealing with his injury properly at the time, has helped cause this

We need details as to how this has happened.

If this is a recurrence of, or still the same injury which wasn’t properly healed the medical staff need a f**king shoeing, and replaced root and branch ASAP.

Fuck me, man. Poor lad. Poor us, too.

it's hard not to think the medical team letting him play on for a couple of games with an injury must have contributed to this.

Absolutely fucks our Summer plans, too, as you'd think we'll need to buy? Burn/Lascelles can cover for the remaining games but we can't attract top players by seling them a back 4 with either of those two as starting CBs.

    It's a joke.

Medical team needs a full change - I know that has started but **** me it needs to happen quicker.

And you're right Zip, it'll have to change our summer plans - just when we really didn't need that.

    Botman around his original injury…

“ Some people (specialists) said it was a total rupture, others said that it wasn’t, so I’ve done everything to rest & avoid surgery.

The operation would’ve kept me out for nine months but I’m back & feeling like my old self again — so it seems like I made the right choice."

If the not specialists were club medical staff, they want f**king fired

    A. Because it is incompetence at its worst… failing to protect a patient because you think the team will profit by taking chances.

    B. Because which player is going to trust these f**king clowns going forward? Their health/fitness is the basis of their entire career

Obviously the NUFC medical team must be under scrutiny.
But they cannot be largely responsible for this, surely. He must have seen external specialists since September.

A total bugger it hasn't worked out, but then having surgery doesn't guarantee that everything is now fine and will work as well as it ever did.

    What a season!!
