When the manager says that Chicksen played well,. Thats the time to call a taxi for him, and his so called management team..

I have to say, Cameron's defensive performance, especially for a team captain, was woeful. He faced a "must win" challenge to prevent that first goal and made the most pathetic attempt I've ever seen. Any centre-half worthy of the name would be thoroughly ashamed.

Slocombe. 6. Possibly our best distributor of the ball, couldn't do anything with the goals.
    Warner. 5. Anonymous.
Cameron. 4. Poor, plays far too high up with his limited pace and composure. Accident waiting to happen.
Macari. 7. Excellent in terms of positioning. Excited about building around him.
Chicksen. 3. Issues are always gonna appear when you have a defensive full back as a wing back.
Austin. 6. Came into his own after finding more space on the wing.
Robertson. 6.5. Played well in the first half, hampered by fatigue in the second half.
Crowley. 7. Insanely versatile but doesn't half dwell on the ball. Mind you that's probably down to limited runs around him.
Jones. 6.5. Carrying the squad in terms of creative input. Marked out of the game.
Jatta. 5. Isolated with too much space between him and the nearest runner aka Cowley/Macca.
Macca. 3. Not a right winger.
    Subs.
JoB. 5. Fiercely fearless but with limitations.
    Didzy. 3. Looked completely bereft.
Maynard. 4.5. Changed things at half time realising Chicksen just isn't a decent option at this level. Feel sorry for him, but saying the players gave everything and that Chicksen was excellent is just underwhelming naive.

Slocombe was like a snail for the second goal, Macca had a couple of efforts on target

It looks like some of our players are nervous as kittens in home games

Slocombe - 6 - Personally didn’t think he could’ve done much with either goal, and can’t remember any other saves he needed to make. Was getting stick from the crowd for holding onto the ball too long but too often there was no-one showing for it (how we miss Palmer).

Warner - 5 - On paper the right signing in terms of attributes but for me no upgrade on what we already had. Very uncomfortable in possession and very rarely see him use his size to win headers. Would be the one I’d take out the team to make way for Baldwin.

Cameron - 5 - Couple of poor errors, probably not quite as bad overall as many have made out (IMO) but struggled against Smith. Be good to have Baldwin back in the middle of the 3 on Friday.

Macari - 7* - By far our most reliable defender, always seems to deliver a 7/10 performance wherever he plays. Very good signing.

Jones - 6 - Out of position, a bit out of sorts and yet still our most dangerous player by a long way. One lovely bit of skill and fantastic cross in the second half deserved a goal. Enjoy him while you can; there’s no way he’s sticking around next season to be moved position each week and finish mid-table (at best) under Maynard.

Crowley - 6.5 - Another one like Jones who is being wasted under this manager, but still delivers moments of brilliance (like the goal). Missed Nemane’s runs in-behind. Repeatedly beat his man first half but then had nothing to work with and had to pass back.

Robertson - 7 - Like Macari, hats off to the recruitment team for getting such a talented young player on a free. The one bright spot of 2024. Breaks up the play so well and is smart with it when he gets it.

Austin - 5.5 - Very poor in midfield and at fault for the first goal, improved when moved wide in the second half and helped set-up the goal.

Chicksen - 3 - Always be thankful for his contribution last season but offered absolutely nothing, it was almost embarrassing as we repeatedly found him in good positions but can’t recall him delivering a single cross. Should only be used in the back 3 going forwards.

Langstaff - 5.5 - Out of position, popping up everywhere except where he’s most effective. Had a hand in the goal but looked like he missed another chance himself at the death (opposite end to me so may be being harsh).

Jatta - 5 - A bit of a reality check after the hype. Constantly offside and nowhere near the ball when crosses were floated across goal. The difference to Smith at the other end was stark.

O’Brien - 5 - Gave the energy and impetus he always does, but switched off and left his runner for the winner. One crazy dummy near our goal gave them an open goal they should’ve scored from.

McGoldrick - 5.5 - Great to have him back but shouldn’t have to be the one coming to get the ball off Slocombe, particularly when we need a goal. Couple of moments of quality but looked like he was trying to do too much.

Maynard - 3 - Lost any opportunity to build momentum from Tuesday night. Made the right sub at half time which improved us in the middle and in wide areas, but you could argue that’s the team he should’ve started with. Too slow to change anything else. His home matches are following the same pattern; to lose 5 straight home matches is almost impressively bad, given our form at Meadow Lane prior to his arrival (LW had 10 wins from 13). Post-match interview an embarrassment again. Where’ve the standards gone? Can’t see any evidence to suggest he’s the man for the long term.

Slocombe - 5 - nothing he could have done for the goals but why was he just booting the ball up to nobody?

Warner - 6 - looks nervous and lacking confidence but didn't do anything wrong

Cameron - 3 - first goal he totally missed the tackle allowing the shot. Second goal he got turned and then never followed the ball. He needs some time out the side

Macari - 7.5 - how we signed him, I don't know but a great find. Strong in the tackle and good on the ball.

Jones - 6 - very quiet game for Jones. First half was wasted on the right, second half we were just hoofing the ball

Chicksen - 5 - he's not a wing back, did nothing really wrong but didn't do much full stop

Robertson - 6.5 - first half was really strong, won possession as expected. Second half we bypassed the midfield so didn't get a chance to get in the game

Austin - 4 - offered nothing, too lightweight and was at fault for the first goal as much as Cameron. At the end of the game, he was closest to the ball and still lost out. League 2 is not his level

Crowley - 7 - took his goal well but at time can be ball greedy. Once ran in a circle rather than release Jones on the wing

Langstaff - 6 - wasted on the wing in the first half and then in the second half we was just booting it up so zero service

Jatta - 6 - he's tall but pumping it up to him isn't going to work, play it to his feet or in front of him and he'll shine. Lots of effort but zero service, effort even more remarkable as he is apparently Muslim so will be fasting so fair play to him, I complain when I have a late lunch, so to play football on top of not eating all day, well done!

Maynard - 2 - we have a seemingly decent game against Bradford and he changes the team again, granted Nemane was unavoidable but why the change in formation? Players look devoid of inspiration, fans have lost any connection to the team under him, time to go

The Langstaff chance at the end was a very good one, and one you’d expect an in-form Macca to take. He looked quite a frustrated figure out there yesterday.

Cameron was pathetic for most of the game but the second goal, someone should have gone with the runner from midfield and Warner should have been quicker to cover behind him. Cameron had to go with the attack who turned the ball on as if he'd stood off and the player was allowed to control and turn on the ball with no challenge then people would have got him for that. Our whole defence except Macari and most of the time Baldwin, is absolute dog****. I thought Warner would be good as well, he's crap. Trouble is too many young defenders thesedays are judged on how they are on the ball, not how good they are at actually defending.

He did the same after the Newport Game, and guess what ? We lost
