Thread: Max Kilman

    Max Kilman

No, this is not a finger pointing exercise, Kilman has looked lethargic and hesitant in the last few weeks but when on form he is without doubt an excellent centre half.

    But captain material?

Kilman comes across as one of the nice guys, quiet and unassuming. Maybe, like in other sports (the England cricket captaincy through the years springs to mind) the burden of being captain can often affect performances also.

Could Dawson or Lemina, two players with fire in their bellies do a more vocal and assertive job as captain?

It was an interesting choice, he’s a quiet individual, but hard to knock it given the season we’ve had. Personally I would have gone with Dawson at the start of the season, now I’d go with Lemina.

There are different kinds of captains. some are loud and shout a lot, others lead by example, while Kilman is the quiet sort. He is quite young for a captain, and Dawson may have been the better choice, but that is not taking anything away from Max. He is bright in terms of intelligence and obviously respected in the dressing room. Why change when things are going well, despite the injuries.
