everyone is blaming the drains, but soil compaction will stop water flow from the pitch downward to the drains. that is probably why the water wont drain away If this is the case then soil compaction will have to be checked then remedial work carried out.

The pitch was relaid last close season and at reasonable intervals before. Relaying a pitch is minor to relaying and sorting drains. Therefore don't think soil compaction is the problem.

Anyway now that you are back have you come up with a name of a player of yours that would get into our team. You've had long enough to think about it.

How many games have been postponed for weather the last 5 years?

I assume you play golf at Drumoig, that was closed last week.

Carnoustie and St Andrews, have both had courses closed in the last 10 days, so really Dens is no exception.

Plus on Saturday there was F all wrong with the pitch, didn’t look great but perfectly playable.

If you listen carefully you'll hear that they always say 'on record', 'hottest on record', wettest on record', 'coldest on record' etc.

Records don't go far enough back to make proper climate predictions. However the fossil record and things like tree growth patterns do - they don't show the results they want to see so get ignored.

    Probably double figures.

But it's not just the postponed games, it's continual threat of games being postponed plus the dozen or so terrible surfaces we have had to play on in last 5 years.....including Saturday, pitch was more dead than the Norwegian blue in monty phython.

Drumoig is rarely shut and usually an hour or two.

people mix up pitch relaying with pitch re seeding, Im sure the pitch would have been re seeded. Look at all the experts standing about on the waterlogged areas just causing more compaction below. you seem to be more bothered about an answer than reading about how to solve the real issue. I think there is an apt phrase that would suit here. "head stuck in the sand"

If it was compaction the water would pool on the surface or would run off and wouldn't waterlog the substrate surely? We don't have water pooling or running off We have it saturating the earth because it gets so far in then has nowhere else to go due to failed drains I'd think.

I think they take the top 6 inches or so off.

It's then piled up behind Cox for 2 mths until the stink gets too bad and is then taken away.

A lot of it I've used in my back garden.
