    QPR - v - Leeds United *** Matchday Thread***

    Friday 26th April 8:00pm | Loftus Road

Leeds have the opportunity to put distance between themselves and Ipswich Town, if they can overcome Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on Friday Evening. With the Tractor Boys not playing til Saturday (at Hull City), the Whites can go four points clear, and put pressure on Kieran McKenna's side, who would have two games in hand. The two sides last met in early October, when Crysencio Summerville's clinical ninth minute strike was all that separated them. The game was marred by the sending off of veteran keeper Asmir Begović for (nearly) clipping Patrick Bamford.

Leeds will be without the services of Dan James. The Welsh Wizard suffered rib/abdominal injuries towards the end of the Boro win, and was subsequently seen on the team bus being administered gas and air. His thir**** goals and seven assists this season have gone a long way to put Leeds in the position they are now in, but in all likelihood, he will miss the season finale against Southampton.

Defensive quartet Stuart Dallas, Jamie Shackleton, Connor Roberts and Pascal Struijk all miss out with injury, whilst Sam Byram looks set to continue at right back, allowing Archie Gray to venture forward into midfield, meaning Glen Kamara once again drops to the bench. Patrick Bamford is preferred over Matteo Joseph and Joel Piroe to lead the line.

Massive game. I think Bamford suffered a knock on Monday. May be out.

    0 - 2.

QPR by no means have the biggest pockets in the Championship but they'd certainly be within the top 10 'cash in pockets' wise.
Dunno why they're struggling to be honest as they have some big backers.

The biggest shareholder in the club is Gnanalingam, who owned 60% of the club.
An American investor called Richard Reilly owns 21%.
Amit Bhatia the son-in-law of billionaire steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal owns just under 20% - so some serious wedge !

Gnanalingam has funds available behind him as his father G. Gnanalingam owned Westports (an industrial transportation company) worth $1.45 billion at his death in June 2023, according to Forbes.

So, strange to see them struggle to attract players to their London base & they also appear to have a poor youth set-up in supplying home grown talent.

The richest owners in the Championship presently are still Gamechanger 20 Ltd who own Ipswich Town & are 90% owned by a US investment fund called ORG.
(They manage funds on behalf of a large US pension pot - the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System).

The Chief Investment Officer of the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Trust claimed when they first took over the club that "Our fund is $13 billion & we’re holding $700m in cash," the East Anglia Daily Times recently reported. 😲

Forbes still state that the Coates Family who own Stoke City & Bet365 have the wealthiest backers in the Championship as of Feb 2024. Their CEO, Denise Coates, is worth $7.7 billion (just over £6 billion), as per Forbes.

The 49ers Enterprise still has an estimated net worth of just under £5 billion, mmm.

I cannot understand why Leeds are playing on a Friday evening after a Monday night match. Both away games. That's only 3 days rest while QPR have 5 days. Leicester don't have to suffer this unfairness and neither do Ipswich.

The fixture was selected to be shown by Sky Sports - Cherry.
The trip to QPR was originally due to be played on Saturday, April 27, but it has now been brought forward to accommodate the Sky cameras

As for the game I honestly did'nt know one single QPR player or they'd a Spanish Manager until i looked at the last QPR match report (QPR 1- Preston North End 0).
    https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2024/apri...-preston-home/

Apparently QPR manager Cifuentes has said his side had the added motivation of being able to secure their survival in front of their own fans but he was purely focused on their performance in the match against Leeds.

"They (Leeds) have a lot of talent in their team, young players with X factor," Cifuentes said.

"We know that if we want to get something from this game we have to deliver our best performance otherwise there's not a chance for us."

So no pressure from him then 😂

It is no different to playing Saturday and then Tuesday - quite common in the championship, Leicester and Southampton both played Last Saturday and then again this Tuesday night, Ipswich have three games in seven days...
Postponed games being replayed and or games being moved for Sky - which will happen in the top two divisions to ALL succesfull teams, its the price we pay for being succesfull

No problem with playing on short rest as long as it is approximately the same for the opponent. For instance Ipswich, even though they will play 3 games in 7 days, only in the last game against Huddersfield will their opponents have an advantage. For Leeds, Boro and now QPR have an advantage. I understand in the Premier League, the big clubs often have to play in Europe midweek, but we are not quite there yet.
