    france v Netherlands

They brought Wout on too late. They both played like England but then went for it when they crossed the half way line but the opposition tried to get every one behind the ball so they cancelled each other out. france should have scored a couple of times but finishing was poor, ditto with the Dutch. If we were on form we could beat both of these teams, like germany they don't have a lethal finisher. it's a pity we aren't on form. I still think germany will do it but as BT says Spain could be a problemo.

I shook my head at the BBC Match Brigade who said the Dutch goal should have stood. The French goalkeeper had a Dutch player in an offside position stood 3 feet away from where he could have dived to stop the shot. I well remember Sir Alex saying if you are not interfering with play you bloody well should be!

My favourite one-liner so far came from the delightful Miss Aluko who postulated that Gareth "should play two number tens, one who could drop deep!" Women!

There was one game a couple of days ago where one of the comms said something on the lines of, 'They were playing two number tens, now they're playing two number eights, and that's been negated because the opposition are playing two number sixes'. After I'd stopped laughing all I could think was 'Feck off'.

Alf Ramsey was an astute tactician, he won the World Cup for us after all, but dear old Sir Alf wouldn't have had a clue wtf they were talking about.

Not trying to better you mon ami but in a game yesterday the guy on the microphone said, "the opposition can't get the ball because the attacking side are playing TWO NUMBER 15s". The wife who was sat quietly knitting asked just how can a team have two number 15s?

Townsend was second chair yesterday and I could not follow a thing he was talking about. He was saying how good Poland are and Austria swiped them 3-1. His time with Luton is not helping him.

Just turn the sound off guys, the game still takes place and you can form your own opinions without having to listen to crap spouted by people getting big money for spouting crap!

Pundit pedantry with all these new "terms and phrases" is a joke. They're just trying to create the illusion of having a technical knowledge of the game. The same thing happened in business years ago, new names for procedures and processes that have been around decades, changed just to make them sound more ***y, Human Resources my rectal portal!

The earliest one I can remember is when our coalman became a solid fuel distributor, and that's a long time ago now, I think I was still in short pants.

In Bolton the former binman is now a part of "Our Refuse/Recycling team of colleagues". Right miserable set of b@stards they are too!
