If you haven't seen this, well worth a view. I doubt anyone on the board saw him play, but if you did tell us! England forward to supplementary benefits.
The video finishes with TL talking to England's first million pound striker.
I remember seeing Tommy on the bus a few times when I used to live in Sherwood. Not sure where he lived.
I have to admit that i saw him grace the Meadow Lane turf, it was back in 1952, i was 5 years of age and my grandfather & father were avid Notts supporters.
I have to admit that i have very little recollection of the few games that i was taken to Meadow Lane but i was told years later that i was passed down over heads & shoulders to the front, a few rows below my family, it seems incredulous that is what used to happen but it was normal for kids them days. So yes, i saw the great man play, my dad used to say he headed the ball from our pitch over to the Forest ground, i had a few years believing that before it clicked that he kidded me, low and behold along came another great header of the ball, Mr Tony Hateley, now he was my hero whom i remember quite well, as by that time i used to go down the Lane on my own, he was/still is my legend. It used to be a full day then, straight to the ice stadium from Meadow Lane, for the Panthers game, fab time to be a kid.

Nice one The Dug Out. While I never saw TL play, he did used to walk past my house in Nottingham City centre.
I saw him a good few times when I was 9, 10ish from the kids pen a special area at the front of the cop three pence to get dumped in there and hope your parents could find you afterwards.no mean feat with crowds you used get in those days.
Grandparents Dads Uncles Auties and half of Beeston used to go.
Heading is what people most remember him for of course but my main memory of him was a pretend backheel to sell the defender a dummy he rolled it back under his sole flicked it up and volleyed it into the net
My recollections he was skillful with his feet more than he got credited for.
Our whole family went to see him at a pub he was the Landlord of at Shardlow after getting there in 7 motorbike and sidebar combinations He wasn't there but we had a great day out.
Met him later in life at an annual supporters club due a true gent.
