Season 2021/22: Plays 30 games, again he does well but also loses his place to Josh Vickers and only gets back in for the promotion run in due to Vickers getting injured. Does well enough for the club to take up the option of a third year. Would a 'big bucks' offer come in for a keeper who hadn't definitively established himself as the number one in League One? I doubt it.
Season 2022/23: Now in the final year of his contract, He plays 44 games and becomes an absolute superstar and is the main factor in us staying up. Does the club take what they can get for him in January and risk almost certain relegation? Would anyone be willing to pay 'big bucks' during January for a keeper on a free in the summer? He's offered a contract and after negotiations inexplicably agrees to sign a two year deal with a release clause apparently set at 900k. At this point the club have three options, agree to that deal, sell him immediately for probably less than 900k, or let him go for free in the summer. Tough choice...
Season 2023/24: Plays 46 games and almost single handedly prevents us possibly finishing on a single digit points total. Release clause is met by Stoke, Leaves a hero and a legend.
I'm not saying our club never make errors with regards to contracts and transfers but in this instance please tell me at which point in those four years should the club have taken a 'big bucks' offer for him, and which 'big bucks' offers did we turn down?
