Religion has nothing to do with it. Abusers will get positions near children in every walk of life.
I can see people using this to give believers a kicking, but wars are fought for land and power, ask Putin and Hitler.

The protection of religious institutions is everything to do with it. The very same religious institutions that have manipulated the entire planet in so many ways throughout recorded history.

Their religion didn't make them do it, but the toxic religious organisations they operate within have routinely placed their reputations over morality.

Séx crimes against children should be punished with the ending of the life of the person committining the crime regardless of race or religion! The law of the land should be of such and if you break that law you should be punished to the letter of the law!

Well, seems it’s not just Islam that has this problem. Justin Welby resigns but the problem of child ***ual abuse and the CofE still persists…….and has been going on for a long time

Will they finally address it rather than just casting out scapegoats?

Don't forget the Catholics. My wife attended a Catholic primary school in Rotherham and the treatment she describes receiving from one teacher in particular borders on sadistic.

The treatment of young women and girls having children out of wedlock in Ireland was related to their 'sin', as was Smyth's abuse of young men for mastur_bation.

At my wife's primary school punishment (caning) was handed out (ha!) for incorrectly describing the colour of the vestments worn by the priest at the Sunday service.

It's not the problem insofar as child abuse is concerned.

Child abuse occurs wherever children come into contact with adults. Churches are just one place where it happens.

But aren't certain institutions such as the church in a different place from the narrative you describe , I'm talking about trust and belief in the church .

I share your view on religion but how are religious people meant to trust the church when in their view there is no greater power .

No institution can be holier than thou ( no pun intended ) but this is something else in my opinion .

My point was aimed more at the notion that religion is a cause of child ***ual abuse. From my professional experience in the subject, it isn't.

It's very much the case that abuse happens when adults have access to children. That's certainly true of churches and temples etc., but it's also true of schools, youth clubs, the Scouts, care homes etc., and, particularly sadly, the home.

Nobody has said that religion per se is the cause of abuse but religious institutions certainly provide the opportunity and cover for it to happen on an apparently significant scale.
I'm hoping that some investigative journalists will get their teeth into this and expose the scale of the scandal.
