    O/t - Church of England

Well, seems it’s not just Islam that has this problem. Justin Welby resigns but the problem of child ***ual abuse and the CofE still persists…….and has been going on for a long time

Will they finally address it rather than just casting out scapegoats?

It's disgusting and deplorable that Welby knew of John Smyth's abuse of children way back in 2013 and did absolutely nothing about him.

The report accused him of attacking up to 30 boys he had met at the summer camps during the 1970s and 1980s.
He singled out boys attending the camps and in sessions at leading public schools, including Winchester College, before taking them to his home and beating them with a garden cane in his shed.
The report by Keith Makin described Smyth's abuse as a "clearly s.e.xually motivated, sadistic regime" of beatings.
Smyth then relocated in the 1980s to Zimbabwe, and later South Africa, where he is alleged to have abused a further 85 to 100 "young male children aged 13 to 17".

Smyth is now dead so has no one to answer to, meanwhile Welby has a lot to answer to. Makes you wonder if anyone else was involved.

I hope all church goers sing ‘you’re just a church full of peédos every Sunday so that family members and friends get reminded of what the sick grooming vickors have done to countless families.

It's not the problem insofar as child abuse is concerned.

Child abuse occurs wherever children come into contact with adults. Churches are just one place where it happens.

    Not just child abuse though.
Abuse of adults, bigotry, lies, wars, obscene wealth etc etc.
It baffles me how, in the 21st century, people can still be taken in by these holy Joes.

Basically you are describing the behaviour of the human race and I'm not convinced that the religious are any better or any worse than those who aren't

I'm not religious at all, but I'm ambivalent about people who do believe. It's their choice and I can see how it can be a comfort to people.

Are we not mixing up the religion and the profession?

There seem to be a lot more reports on the news relating to child abuse in the church or even in schools run by religious professionals compared to mainstream schools or other professions.

I’ve not done any research on this but it’s my perception.

Welby officiated at Prince Harry's marriage to Meghan Markle and also the Coronation of King Charles. That's not a good look whichever way anyone wishes to spin it.
I'm breathing a sigh of relief that the Vicar who officiated at our wedding wasn't embroiled in such a scandal.

Religion has nothing to do with it. Abusers will get positions near children in every walk of life.
I can see people using this to give believers a kicking, but wars are fought for land and power, ask Putin and Hitler.
