    Labour Politicians

There are many things that get on my thrupenny bits with politicians from all sides. The latest with this new Labour Government is their spokesmen and ministers starting nearly every interview or statement with "let me be clear" or "let me be absolutely clear". Point is, however, they are anything but clear,
dodging questions and havering sh1te all the time. I really can't stand any of the political class, they're all tarred with the same brush. Useless, thinking of themselves most of the time and totally detached from the needs and views of their electorate.

Was laughing the other day about AHH the MPs saying they will have to scrutinise euthanasia bill.

I doubt more than half a dozen will scrutinise anything.....in fact a free vote is a pain in the ass to them and much more comfortable being told how to vote.

My limited involvement with local politicians, I have found them to be thick, disinterested or just blub out party line.....I doubt any of them could scrutinise anything.

These Labour politicians are told what to say by their special advisors and if these politicians are caught off guard and asked questions that are not pre arranged they dodge answering the questions.
It is the same with the Scottish Government Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers.

That is the problem with local authority councillors.
    They vote on party lines.
In my opinion all local authority councillors should be independents.
Then they would have to vote in favour of what was best for their constituents and not being told by the leader of their group how to vote.
I was told by an Argyll and Bute opposition councillor that the ruling group of Argyll and Bute councillors were nodding like donkeys when their Councillor Robin Currie defended the decision to increase the Council Tax in Argyll and Bute by 10% for the 2024-25 Council Tax Year.
I also know that it was the Chief Executive of Argyll and Bute Council who pushed for this 10% increase in the council tax as I have an email from Councillor Robin Currie which I received in January 2024 where he stated that he was ‘up to the eyeballs’ going through the budgets to produce a balanced budget.
Councillor Robin Currie did not have the brains to prepare these budgets to produce a 10% increase in the Argyll and Bute council tax for the 2024-25 financial year. They were produced by the Chief Executive and top council officials.

I don't see audited accounts from local councils. Do they exist?

    I have never seen them.
Every year council taxpayers receive details of how their council tax is being spent in the form of a pie chart along with the details of the amount of their council tax for the next financial year but nothing else.
You should submit a freedom of information request to Dundee City Council asking for a copy of the audited accounts for the year ending 31st March 2024.
I see that Dundee City Council have to save 15 million pounds and one of their many proposals to go towards this total is to reduce civic receptions which would save 112,000 pounds per annum.

It is unlikely that the ?15m will mean that last year they spent say ?300m and this year they can only spend ?285m. There is an interesting thread in the sequel to the Day of the Jackal series where some mega rich people want to prevent the clear presentation of all wealth, and hire the hitman to kill the creator of the process.

Hiding wealth might be the next big crime as life follows fiction.
