Agree, I'm hoping that they make the appointment fairly soon, the Csaba era already carried on a few games too much this season (months in reality), let's give the new man (hopefully Neilson) a chance to make a go of it this season before we find ourselves falling too far behind
The point remains though, could be more complicated than it seems.
There is nothing to confirm he is on garden leave (Stevie Crawford has since taken up employment with Dunfermline) but using that example he’d still be owed £153k from MK Dons.
United offer him a 2 year deal on £2k a week = £208k with potential to earn bonuses, rebuild his reputation and get bigger wage here/better elsewhere.
He could also go back to MK Dons and negotiate. New club has offered him £2k so they can pay him £2k for next 34 weeks (£64k) instead of full £4500 giving them an £85k saving. He’s not going to a rival team so makes no sense for MK to dig their heals in.
Whatever his situation it didn’t stop St Mirren and a host of English league 1 clubs allegedly offering him a job. He’s turned them all down for his own reasons.
Between this forum and others this is the state of play as I see it.
Neilson- favourite with many but to others Leveins puppet.
Hughes - f**k off.
McIntire - ex player. Doesn’t work.
Ellis- some happy but seen as failure because of history with Ray and Czaba.
Duncan F - liked by many because he would punch pusses.
Badger - no experience as a manager.
Tommy Wright - ruled out because of compo. Good if we could get him.
So MM good luck sorting that out.
I'm warming to Billy McKinlay. Yes it would be a risk, but if anyone can give a name that wouldn't be a risk then that's our man. Yes he has had a failed attempt at one management job but Steve Clarke had a few he's done well at Killie. His reputation as a coach in England is right up there with the best of them. He's a United man, knows the club, knows what it takes to be at the club and he will unite the whole club together. Get an older head along side and who knows, and surely has a little black book full of contacts.
Barry Robson cos his Sy Ferry interview was funny.
This is a name that i really didnt think would pop up! First season down, ICT did a really good job of consolidating their position and seem to be doing really well at pushing for a return to the top league. Would have thought he would like to finish the job, but may still be commuting from the central belt and wants to be closer to home.
