    Big Joel Massamba.

In all seriousness though, if the Post man kept knocking your door down with parcels you wouldn't reinforce your door, you'd get a new post man. The service is the problem, our only attacking threats happened when Enzio and Hemmings created them on their own, play the ball into Hemmings' feet and I doubt you'll find anyone in this league better than him.

Bringing Peter Crouch out of retirement and expecting anything to change when the ball is being aimlessly hoofed forwards would leave you dissapointed. There is no way in hell there is a target man out there that would be able to do anything with the service Enzio and Hemmings were given last night imo, passing the ball on the floor is when we've looked most dangerous and doing more of that is the answer, not sign a big lump to compete with the other big lumps in this league that are very experienced at dealing with big lumps...

Exactly what I felt. You need to compete physically of course but I felt Notts' best moments were when they tried to play a little football on the ground. Why come down to the level of concentrating on brute force and expecting it to raise you above the rest. I think there is still a place for playing some football.

... admirable wishes gentlemen but somewhat naive. Faced with both the thugs and referees in this division, we need a current version of Hately and McCulloch who won't be bullied. Tyson, on the basis of two games, is too lightweight. Enzio appears to have an attitude problem and won't get stuck in for 50/50 balls; he currently appears to lack the intelligence to use his skill to outplay opponents. Keeping it simple does not mean hoofball ... we just need effective play.
COYP ... we're moving in the right direction ... second half of the season will be very good (leaving aside any money issues the owners may have with our football financial black hole).

I agree in normal play but having a target man up front to go long to when under the cosh can be useful. At the moment, all we can do is play to feet, we can't mix it up. One game that comes to mind is a couple of years back under Sheridan against Grimsby. We were getting slaughtered and losing two nil, we bring on Vadaine Oliver and we drew 2-2. In fact, if O'Connor had scored his penalty, we'd have won.

It's always nice to have options to mix it up a bit

This^^^ Especially in this league, a target man is a must. I'd sign 2 if possible, 1 can soon pick up an injury and be sidelined.

I don't believe there's anything naive whatsoever. Trying to play to the same template that every single other team in the division has been doing forever, some sizeable clubs marooned there for year after year after year and expecting it to suddently be a success for Notts is what I would call naive

I wouldn't disagree with that at all, indeed I absolutely do believe that Notts need an effective target man up front. They certainly need that as part of a strong spine. We know that playing with such a type does not preclude playing football, quite the contrary. There was an excellent example across the Trent many moons ago (and many others) with Peter Withe leading the line in a team that played some absolutely scintillating football.

Agreed Masson, people expecting us to be able to beat teams at their own game just by signing a big bloke is the naive thing here

it’s not just about beating teams at there own game though. It’s having options in attack, being able to choose to lump it upfront or not. We need an outlet as we are often trapped in or own half

We absolutely need a target man. As others have said, every other team has one - and for good reason. We have some decent forwards on paper, but unless they have someone to play off, they'll be living off scraps.

Like it or not, a big man up front is extremely effective, and we haven't had one since Shola, which was also the last time we were half decent. No coincidence.
