Attacking wise, look ok, have options available, but still big concerns in defence, couple of injuries & the dreaded red cards ( Mr Cooper / Berardi ) a bit thin on ground, - cant believe that a decent CB, at sensible price not sought. Think much will depend on the injury front, pity as a touch more ambition, could have made all the difference.

    Defence will let us down.
We seem to be planning to outscore the opposition but they will park the bus and hit us when we are shagged out.

Yep, on the whole I think we've done well. It's worth reading the two part interview with Graham Smyth and Victor Orta in the YEP to fully appreciate the considerations they have had to make. Keeping Phillips is a great bit of business in itself.

On the whole I think we are no better or no worse, we have a better attack but a possibly weaker defense depending on White and the tactics we use.

Also think we are probably the best club in the league in terms of stability and that is worth a lot both on and off the pitch.

If MB is happy with the squad and thinks he can do it this time round then i'm happy and looking forward to rest of our centenary and promotion winning season.

So we flushed away no less than 23 contracted players, plus with transfers out to non English leagues, still allowed for a couple more weeks we should flush De Bock, Anita and Cibicki as well, you would have to say they have finally sorted the squad out.

The wage bill is now under control, that has got to be a good thing, it's not like the EFL needs another reason to come after us.

We actually bought 6 kids, who where all brought in by July 4, giving them the full pre-season, so well thought out and executed plan.

The loans make sense, in the current climate. I hate to point it out, but there are currently 25/26 teams, in England alone, that can pi*s all over us financially. Anyone on here looking for us to sign well rounded, quality footballers, need to wake up. If they are anything more than decent, THEY'RE NOT PLAYING FOR US!!!

The trick is to find either young guys with ambition, unknown foreign guys with untapped potential or guys who could play at a slightly higher level than they currently do.

Come up with a creative system, and get the players to fully commit to it.

Then add team spirit, a top notch crowd and a huge, massive. enormous helping of LUCK.

That is all most Clubs without Prem money or parachute payments can hope for in a world where stone average Prem players go for £20m and £40k weekly wages.

But hold on, we actually have most of that, so I'm on-board.

BPF will probably disappear up his own butt in a couple of years and Roofe was injured a LOT last season, and started this season the same, so really not bothered they're gone. I will miss Pontus, but White started well, and seems to have plenty of up sides, so time will tell. Plus the little Arsenal kid sounds like a potential star.

So, basically we've got a nice tight squad that are all sold on the concept, that are as fit as a butchers dog. We have a world renowned coach. A strong u23/u18 set up, playing the same style of football as the 1st team. We actually own our own ground again. We have little debt, and someone keeping a very close eye on the bottom line. Then add the fact we are playing great football most of the time.

So I guess we have finally recovered from the Ridsdale melt down, it only took 16 years!!!

    Well put Sir!!

I buy into all of that and I believe we are stronger than last year so it’s promotion nailed on for me 😜

Good post, and I agree with pretty much all of it.

Looking a bit further afield, somewhat encouragingly no real big signings by anyone - no Mounts, Wilsons, Abrahams, Tomoris this year as far as I can see. The only ones of interest that I noted:

    Duffy and Carter-Vickers to Stoke
    Chalobah to Hudds
Nahki Wells to QPR (I think they might surprise a few people this season)
    Arter and Onomah to Fulham
    Austin to WBA
and believe it or not, Pele to Reading
    I'm ignoring the Rooney b0ll0cks

And we've seen the back of Maupay, McBurnie, Dan James (!), Jota, Che Adams and Sessegnon

    oh, and two old boys:
    Pennington to Hull
    Izzy B. to Luton
