Well, first test match of the summer begins today with Pakistan the visitors to Lords. 20/20 specialist/walking wicket Joss Buttler is drafted back into the side in place of flashy failure James Vince. The Rootmiester General moves up to 3 and 14 year old Dom Bess surprisingly given the chance as England's premier spin bowler. Still start as favourites against a rebuilding Pakistan side who struggled to put away the Irish.

One of England's problems is that they play so much one day cricket that their batsmen don't have the patience to bat properly in test matches. Hence all these collapses.

Tufnell and Vaughan were saying summit similar on’t wireless the other night. If it’s affecting his batting which it looks like it is, then he must step down.

As a top order they are shocking. Geoffrey used to say that your top 5 should be scoring centuries every five tests. The players just aren’t being coached to build innings any more. It’s pretty poor.

India traditionally do not travel well but this is a very different side and a very different captain in Virat Kohli. His record in England is pretty poor but I expect that will change in the next couple of months. As ever, their batsmen are better than their bowlers but Ashwin is the top spinner on either side by a long way.

Intriguing series for England Coach and Captain. Win and everything is peachy. Lose and I can see both punted and Morgan brought in to see if he can work wonders with the red ball team in the same way he has transformed the ODI side (apart fae getting their @rse handed to them by Scotland obvs )

Collapses have been all too common and 134-5 seems to be a position England find themselves in far too often. Stokes being back adds some balance to the team and the controversial selection of Rashid, who no longer wants to play County Cricket, puts a lot of pressure on the money grabbing leg spinner.
