Anybod y who buys anything online, or who shops at any of the suburban shopping centres is complicit in destroying city and town centres worldwide.

Very few of the vacant, dilapitated properties in the city centre are council-owned, so the rental levels are set by ‘market forces’, and the condition of buildings the responsibility of the commercial owners.

Business rate levels are set by central government, which has been taking stick from our local capitalists in the past two years for their failure to take the oil price drop, and the concomitant* effects on business viability into account when setting the valuations.

There are parties far more guilty than local authorities, but they tend to be the easy scapegoat of those whose thinking isn’t quite joined-up yet.

I know it’s not big or clever to read anything into Donald Trumps tweets but he’s really pushed the boat out. Pulling up someone for draft dodging Vietnam.
