    • First day in the job and our new Chancellor advising there isn't a lot of money.

We know where this is going to go.

Never thought I'd be so despondent about a Labour government

      • We’ve just had 14 years of ‘the last Labour government…’ I expect the next 5 will be ‘the last Conservative government…’

Not sure I’ve got it in me to listen to that pricks voice when he’s saying it every day. Decond class Redurn do Dottingdam please

Talking about someone who can't reply. Back under the proverbial stone you go.

We might all have hated Blair and how he changed the Labour party for the worse, but he undoubtedly improved things when he come in and did what he said he would do, rightly or wrongly. They have voted his heir apparent into the top job now and nobody has any idea what he stands for as he enters number 10.

Just a pity Library users like me and other users of our public services caused such a mess of the international money markets back in 2008, that saw the Tories back in power.
I will also never forget or forgive the Lib Dems for aiding and abetting them. Clearly many have!
I agree DeeDon. I've been told that Labour can't introduce bedroom tax or charge us for prescriptions nor can they take away free education.. not till after the Scottish election at least.

They can if they reduce the block grant.

They can only reduce the block grant if they reduce spending in England as it is formula driven - that isn't going to happen in the first year of a Labour government. Even then Labour have zero authority on prescriptions, free education or the mitigation put in place to offset the bedroom tax, only the Scottish Government can change them and that certainly won't happen leading up to critical Scottish elections in 2026

Stewarty & Buc will both be struggling the day I imagine. Two good posters when I was last on here.
Buc still the nicest guy I’ve seen on the net. Total gent.

Yes, I am well aware of all that.
What I'm getting at is that Labour have already said there's little money around.
                        "Time to tighten belts, chaps."

Yup, the cuts are coming and of course they will be fully costed and ***** services budgets will be fully ring fenced!

                          Sounds familiar.

Their non manifesto will bite voters in the arse big time and they have committed to not raising taxes. Of course they can push on chasing people and companies who just don't pay and that would help if they can do it correctly.

We can only give them the benefit of the doubt, but my doubts are huge. It would take an almighty effort of mismanagement to tank the economy worse than the Tories, but you just never know.

I believe Labour will campaign up here in 2026 on the promise to cut the Scottish tax rates back to English levels, whilst keeping things as they were for at least the next parliament, before backtracking if they win it.
