  • Aberdeen v Ipswich Town

Some Friday night football fun next week for Aberdeen as the Scottish Cup holders take on English Championship side Ipswich Town at Pittodrie.

The game will be occurring at 7:30pm Scotland time on Friday 25th July.

This will be our fourth meeting, all the previous ones happened in the early 1980s. There was the famous UEFA Cup tie when we kicked their arrogant erses in 1981, then they came up to Pittodrie for Drew Jarvie's poorly-attended testimonial in 1982. The away side won 1-0. Our fourth meeting came a year later in 1983 when the European Cup Winners Cup holders were turned over 3-0 at Portman Road in George Burley's testimonial.

I can't stand their shirt sponsor and his brand of dull pop music, so I hope we win. I predict a 2-1 win for the home side.

    In for this one

Hopefully get a better look of how we are going to be set up to play Hearts on the 4th August.

I think I am more interested in seeing this new screen in the South Stand.
When you come into the South Stand you get a great view of the stadium and I think this beautiful sight will now be obscured by the giant telly.

I'm in for this one. Had completely forgotten playing them for Jarvie's testimonial.

So had most of the supporters. That bluenose Fergie was upset about it in his autobiography.

Drew is a gent and loves the club.

I never knew of his testimonial or its poor attendance.

Would there have been a reason for the poor attendence?

Surely he wasn't disliked as a player?

Can't open the main board and can't start a new thread so I'm going to do my begging here....

Any top reds not travelling to the hearts game but with enough points for a ticket? (600 needed for first dibs on this) I'll take it off your hands. You get a few extra points on your account and I get to actually go to a Gorgie based game for once. Message me on here or send a fax.

Sorry min. I'm not one of the toppest of top reds, so no chance I could get you a ticket.

Good luck in getting one though.

The Ipswich Town game will be available on RedTV pay-per-view. I don't know if Top Red AberDNA members get a discount.

Firestick members get it for free

This will give me an opportunity to see some of how our new players are ability wise.

                  Hopefully it?s a good match.

Not much difference from last season. We are still nervous when getting pressed and we look like gifting teams lots of chances if we continue to play like we do from the back.
                    Poor going forward as well

Just back. We left just before Ambrose scored. 😂

Ipswich the better team by a mile, but we looked good in spells too.

Good Ambrose took his goal. Hope the loon kicks on this season. Looking a lot fitter.

                          The big screen looks good.

A good support and a fine night for fitba.

Friendly games are always about getting ready for the start of the season but I feel that 3 preseason games isnt enough.

Should have played a few more lower league teams to build up the confidence.

Still feel we need another striker and winger at least.

Not sure if Pape was injured but he was standing outside the main stand taking selfies with fans when I was walking back to the car at full time.

I thought I saw Pape high fiving the players at the tunnel, when they came in from their pre match warm up.

Have heard he wants to leave, but no idea if any substance to it.
