This Yengi chap is so bad that I can't help wondering if they haven't bought the real Yengi but somehow ended up with his imbecile twin brother instead.

The only positive I will suggest we take from that match today is I don?t think we will see as bad a performance from Yengi again this season. That has got to be the worst I have ever seen in a professional player wearing an Aberdeen strip. Truly horrendous.
I would rip his contract up and sack the individual who suggested we sign him. Aberdeen need to have a real good look at themselves. What a pathetic transfer window so far.

Just back.
I honestly didn't think we were that bad and played some good stuff at times.
For me we are still too lightweight on the wings and is still a weakness.
I'm still giving Yengi the benefit of the doubt, but feck me that was as poor a performance from a striker in a Dons jersey I have ever seen.
I honestly think I could have done better and I am sh*t at fitba. Really **** actually. I was the loon at school that was always picked last.
Thought Milne did a good job on the left side and his pass to Milanovic in the first half was a thing of beauty.
Alfie was limping near the end and has apparently done his hamstring.
I don't like Nilsen. Too slow and his passing is chronic. It's alright to moan at players if you are exemplary in your own game.
I know he has been out for a while, but he's a no from me.
I'd love Polvara to get more gametime.
The loon from Sunderland looks good.
Like Clarkson, he will get grief as he is a player with technical ability, which a lot of our fans don't like much.
Give me that over a hammer thrower any day.
I'm taking more positives than negatives from the game though, but we really need to start winning games on a consistent basis and losing cheap goals.

The amount of times we needlessly gave the ball away today was awful, like you said itÂ’s been an ongoing thing with us for years.Originally posted by The_Moog View PostWell, absolutely no surprise there. At least thats our two worst fixtures now out the way - albeit with exactly the results you would expect.
Until we learn to retain the ball and move it effectively we will get absolutely nowhere.
Been a running theme for years mind so Im not holding my breath, but Im genuinely sick and tired of watching us just constantly give it away so cheaply.
I watched Motherwell knock it about for fun yesterday. Ok it was against St Mirren, not Celtic, but how can a diddy wee team like that get players who can pass and move the ball confidently and effectively and we cant?
Yengi - my god. His lovely touch to put the ball out for a goal kick with nobody near him, & his brave defensive block when he threw himself in front of Keskinens shot were particular highlights. I think ive just about seen enough.
On the bright side, we didnt concede from a set piece for once & Aouchiche looked really good. Upgrade on McGrath based on that. Just need some more actual footballers to
play with him.
Season starts now really, but cant help feeling weÂ’re still miles off where we need to be.
ItÂ’s also concerning how easily our players get brushed off the ball.
Im not entirely sure what they are doing in training but there cant be a lot of passing drills involved.
Having said that there was signs that some of our new signings will come good once they are fully fit. It was a terrible decision to only play 3 friendlies in preseason.

Maybe the lack of friendlies in pre season may help us when it really matters towards the end of the season.Originally posted by rico94 View PostHaving said that there was signs that some of our new signings will come good once they are fully fit. Five wins in the last 29 league games suggest that it?s not just friendliest that we struggle in! That?s a truly incredulous statistic and it must be up there with our poorest run of games in our entire history. I hope Thelin can turn things around as the goodwill afforded to him as a consequence of the Cup win won?t last forever and nor should it.Originally posted by TheDeeDon View PostMaybe the lack of friendlies in pre season may help us when it really matters towards the end of the season.

I prefer to look ahead at this season than worry over what happened last season and that includes the cup win.Originally posted by Shetland Don View PostFive wins in the last 29 league games suggest that it?s not just friendliest that we struggle in! We are two games into the season and two games against two teams that we sadly have historically sh*t records against.
A point or two in these two fixtures would have been nice, but wasn't to be.
Hopefully we kick on and start picking up points.
As I stated on the match thread, we really have too.
We know it and I am sure Jimmy does too.
There were a few boos around the ground today at full time and they will become noisier if improvement isn't shown on the pitch and in results.

Since the beginning of Nov last year in the league we have only beaten Dundee (X2), Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Ross County & Hibs with an aggregate of -28, of which it is 28GF & 56GA from 30 games.
That's 6 wins, 4 of those at home, from 30 games with a points total of 25 from a possible 90! That's 32 points from a 38 game season when you play it out. In other words relegation/playoff form and no mistake about it.
Jimmy has a lot of credit in the bank due to winning the Scottish Cup but if he doesn't fix the glaring deficiencies in double quick time then the pitchforks will be out.
Why he didn't line up with the Cup winning formation for these two games I'll never know, especially when you have such a poor pre-season with not enough games to get really up to speed.
This Morton game takes on a whole new level of importance and we're only a few games into the new season......
Sadly I foresee a long, disappointing season ahead playing catch up before we even get to September.

I know I mentioned the 5 wins in 28 games last week but it was tongue in cheek. Some people are getting too fixated with that.
What I would say though is itÂ’s worrying that Jimmy Thelin is being so stubborn with his system and tactics when it looks like teams have sussed out how to play against it.
I thought he finally realised he might have to change the way he wants us to play in certain games after the cup final but maybe that was a one off.
Got to say as well the board should be taking some flak for the recruitment this summer as well, they were all giving themselves a pat on the back over the summer because we won the Scottish Cup when they should have been planning to improve the squad from last season and building on the success of the cup win.

Jimmy today:
"We created some opportunities against Hearts. Today, not so many.
"I still think it's early, but of course we expected more from ourselves, and I am the manager, so I'm responsible."
So he's responsible for fixing it. Which he won't.

Personally hope we just never see Yengi ever again, never mind just this season. Every single touch of the ball against the diets and now timothy has been fkn embarrassing.Originally posted by RED_JOHN View PostThe only positive I will suggest we take from that match today is I don?t think we will see as bad a performance from Yengi again this season. Tend to agree with you here RJ the early signs are all pointing towards a truly pathetic transfer window so far.

I think that?s a bit much. Dorrington, Milanovic, Aouchiche are all good additions I think. We?ve yet to see Gyamfi. Feels like Yengi is becoming a lightning rod for our poor start.
I do worry that our defenders are being recruited on their ball playing not their defending. Between that and a high line for the full backs, we are very exposed. Even playing out of position I thought it shone through that Devlin is first and foremost a defender on Sunday. While I think Jensen brings a lot to the team, he got caught out a lot.

He maybe isn't the best footballer we've ever signed, but gives us everything.
If a young Fergie came in to manage this squad of players, he would have loved Devlin.

Agree with this 100%. The young Icelandic lad is one for the future too - be nice if he was the next Lewis Ferguson.Originally posted by Don Julio View PostI think that?s a bit much. It is a big concern, but fundamentally A LOT of our players just dont seem suited to Thelins system - FB & defence especially.
We also lack physicality all over the park as others have highlighted, and that just doesnt cut it in Scotland.
Im not pishing the bed yet - losing 2 games we always lose is not the end of the world - but the next 3 domestic games are absolutely must wins, and games we should win every time.
We are weaker team and squad wise right now than we were at the end of last season and thats just not good enough.
Another LB, another winger, 2 actual strikers and some more legs in midfield are still required IMO.
Time yet to get them, but they better be coming or we could be in for a loooong season.Last edited by The_Moog; 11-08-2025, 03:32 PM.
