TBH I was never sure about the "up to our knees...." thing about the socks, but that's how it was explained to me....and several of their fans rejoiced in that reasoning.
Sadly, Scotland also wore those socks up until sometime in the early 70s.....nae sure on that one.

As to the game, my recollection is that Deadco were doing p!sh and it was reckoned that the "loyul peepil" would travel in a couple of taxis, alleviating the need to make the game all ticket.
But Big Jock the saviour pitched up earlier in the week, so they came in numbers and hunners got locked oot once the Beach End was filled.
We were 2 up aff early and just ripped the snot oota them until Porteous added a third second half.
