By "solid block", he obviously meant that they just stand there like bricks.

The meaning of that "phrase"

The phrase "we might be wrong, but we won't be confused" is a statement of confident clarity and purpose, even in the face of uncertainty. It means that a person or group is taking a decisive course of action with a clear, well-defined strategy.
But is also prepared to admit and correct their mistakes if the plan proves to be incorrect.

The last sentence is the one that Dave and his mates appear to be forgetting / or ignoring from that phrase
