  • Aberdeen v FC Shakhtar Donetsk

Our first Europa Conference League game of the season is against Ukrainian stars Футбольний клуб Шахтар Донецьк, or FC Shakhtar Donetsk as they are known around here.

It happens this Thursday night, 2nd October, kicking off at 8pm.

Like us, they are also the cup holders in their country. Unlike us, though, they're actually very good, and I predict a comfortable 3-0 win for the away side.

EDIT: I'm surprised the Ukrainian text came out fine on here when apostrophes and pound signs don't.

I have tickets for these games and couldn't give a flying flock about them.

I will go, but goodness me, I felt more excitement for the energies cup we played at Pittodrie, in front of about 100 fans, a good few seasons ago.

A free hit for me this one.

Hopefully one of our players can get a goal, which just might give us a bit of confidence for when Dundee come calling next Sunday.

The thought of Steven Pressley being the man to finish off Jimmy Thelin, is quite a sobering thought.

We invested a lot of money in increasing the squad to cope with the added fixtures so I have every confidence we can match our league form. It will be tough but I believe.

Maybe we'll be like the Huns a couple of years ago; pish in the league but great in Europe.

Ah the eternal optimism of the football fan. We’re all mad aren’t we?

I physically recoiled when I saw this thread header come up but now I’m thinking ‘you never know we’ll get more time on the ball, it may suit us”

Yesterday, they beat bottom of the league FC Rukh Vynnyky 4-0 away from home to go top of the league, unbeaten in seven games.

But European football is a different kettle of fish, right?

Even if we were playing well i'd expect the Ukranians to win quite well, Can't see this being anything other than a 3 or 4 nil scudding.

See advertised on some of the clubs social media pages that we still have thousands tickets of left for Thursday nights game.
Can't say I am surprised to be honest.
Yes I honestly believe we have the best support in Scotland.
But why should our fans fork out more money to watch pesh.
Think we will be doing well if we can keep this scoreline anywhere below 0-5

                      Game day.

Are we all looking forward to going to this tonight.

Wishing my life away, but rather it was the Dundee game on Sunday. Much more important.

Thelinball to come good tonight and we slay Shahktar, only to then get beat off Dundee on Sunday.

Be such an Aberdeen thing to do!!!

Crowd estimated around 15/16k, which I don't think is that bad all thing considered.

Hopefully we can get a goal or something to try and give the players a lift.

I'd be happy if we got a corner kick, let alone a goal.

                          would agree with that mate.
Changing the subject slightly, obviously with the exception of the Scottish Cup Final, when was the last time the dons were actually awarded a penalty? I actually cannot remember the last time we were awarded a penalty kick in a match,
But I got to thinking about our current bunch of under achievers, If we are ever awarded a penalty in a game who do we think should be our first choice penalty kick taker?

For me I would go with Shinnie or Clarkson

As a team you always have to believe no matter who you face you will give yourself an opportunity to win.
                            1-0 o.g will do
