  • SBRed Match Thoughts Barnsley v Rotherham United

Well we've not lost a competitive game against the Millers since October 1982 , 43 years ago .

In reality it means bugga all because how can players who've played in this fixture in all that time have any input as to how things will go tomorrow afternoon ? , they can't .

It's just one of those quirky things that come up in football and is often overhyped in my opinion .

The Millers have improved lately and will come to Oakwell with a new found confidence, but by the same token we played well at Bradford last week and although it was a nothing fixture against Man U kids the 5 goals the reds scored was still a boost baring in mind it was a fixture we managed to lose last season , so I expect both teams to be positive and go for it . I always fancy us in derby games and I view this no different and expect us to edge it, I am hoping Roberts and McGoldrick both play but at the back of my mind I think Conor will stick with the same side that played at Bradford , we will see .

I think Robbo and McGoldrick will play! Robbo came through the game well and McGoldruck scored a hat trick so can't see how he can leave him out??
Hoping we win, nothing new there, but can see the priority being to try and keep a clean sheet first and foremost!
I do think we have enough to beat the millers and in my mind if we play Cleary on the left, Vickers on the right with McGoldrick up top with DKD playing off him we will.

Just on the tube on the way up to Wembley to watch England v Australia in the first Rugby League test match .

Two wins today would be nice but I suspect I may be disappointed and Australia will probably be too good for us .

Absolutely gutted with that, dominated possession but Absolutely no intensity!
You wouldn't have believed it was a Derby game at all.
Poor passing, poor control of the ball and a toothless attack.
Connell 2 out of 10 today, he hardly found a red shirt!
          Awful.

Not a good day , thumped by the Aussies and we lose to Rotherham .

Anyway off out tonight in central London and hopefully rescue the weekend with a few drinks .

Are we in a relegation scrap ? , i knows it's early but we are on a poor run of results with an inexperienced HC at the helm and we are only 5 points from the bottom 4 .

I wouldn’t go that far just yet mate, but if we lose the next 2 to 3 games I can see us going that way and Connor’s position being seriously considered?
I like the lad but when you look at the games we have won, we scraped past Burton and Peterborough and Huddersfield had to have their goalie sent off before we took control.
What worries me is this determination to play out from the back, if we are not making mistakes to allow the opposition to score, we are giving them the ball back almost immediately, more often than not through sheer bad passing.
The Bradford game should have been a catalyst to push on, but we were so slow against Rotherham I worry that if we do that against York Pearce will have a field day against us and we will become one of the first round shocks.
I’m a bit bewildered that Connor said in his post match interview, that the team gave him everything? If that’s the case we are doomed.

No we are not, the fact that the season is still in its early stages and given that we have 2 games in hand on a lot of teams it gives the table a false look , and I know we are not on form but other teams who are on a decent run have obviously picked up points with playing extra games and there is another international weekend coming up where we will not play but most other teams will and the league will look even more distorted .

First half I thought we were decent without having a cutting edge. If McGoldrick scored from inside the 6 yard box, I reckon we would’ve won comfortably.

Second half we were poor though.

Looks like our poor home form is rearing its ugly head again.
