  • SBRed Match Thoughts Stockport County v Barnsley

I still can't get my head round these 12.30 PM kick off times , to facilitate a tv audience of .......... ??

Let's be honest Stockport County v Barnsley in league one isn't exactly box office is it .

Anyway let's hope we can continue our recent good form and reward the travelling fans for their earlier start to the day .

It?s Sky again animal, trying to rinse as much money out of people as they can! I love football but even I think there is far too much on the telly, telly bunkembox!
Tough one to call tomorrow? Or should I say today! County have lost 2 on the bounce 3-0 and we have won 2 on the bounce, their down turn seems to be the loss of Norwood to injury, but they have a good experienced squad, they also can?t play O?Keefe, so may throw Jack Hunt in, who surely can?t be match fit yet?
We are without Bland who has been sensational so I?m hoping Conor brings Phillips in, not Russell and leaves the rest alone that hammered Luton.
County need to be treated with respect at their place which is a hard place to get a result, I?m hoping the confidence we should have does not come out as over confidence and we just impose our game on them, Shepherd and Roberts will need to be at their very best against Wooton and Lowe who are top performers at this level, but we have enough in our ranks to get a result if they approach the game in the right way.
Personally I think a draw is nailed on, I would prefer a 0-0 if we don?t win so that the defenders gain more confidence in keeping clean sheets! Hopefully though we come away with 3 points to get closer to the top and the fans are belting out ?it?s just like watching Brazil?.

Once again we are on our travels and this time it is to one of the top sides in the league , form is a key factor and whilst we have had an upturn Stockport have hit the buffers but form as they say is only temporary and good sides find a way to bounce back , Stockport will turn it around but hopefully not today . We go into the match full of confidence after last weeks best display of the season although Bland missing is a problem , he is a ***** cog in our side and plays a duet with Connel to which brings the best out of them both and I think who ever plays the Bland role is key , there is no way Philips or Russel can do it which leaves Kelly or Yoga , I would probably give the job to Yoga and bring Philips in to play in his position ,if it is not working we can switch during play ,also last week we managed to keep a rare clean sheet although I expect the Stockport strikers to be a tough test I am hoping the back 4 can repeat their efforts and keep it tight , it will be a tough test but I think as a team we have proved that we travel well and I expect us to come home with some kind of points return , 1 would be great 3 would be excellent , we will see !!!

Just seen team for today, I'll be careful as I was critical before we hammered Luton, but to me it seems Conor just can't help himself with tinkering? Watson to LB and Mael RB, why just not leave Watson where he was and play Ogbeta?

My error, Mael is playing LB and is duly being rinsed for pace by Fevrier!

We are by far the better side and deserve the one goal lead but I really hope those missed chances in that first half don't come back to bite .

We should be at least three goals to the good in my opinion .

A good solid 1st half, 1 nil to us and should really be more! We have looked more solid since Cleary has started coming back to help Mael with Fevrier, and restricted them to no shots on target.
Can't believe no one appealed for handball when I think it was Roberts who crossed it and Conolly hit it away with his hand?
Their goalie is struggling with the conditions so hopefully more shots at him in the 2nd period.
Kelly, Cleary and Yogi causing all sorts of problems for them.
Phillips passing has been poor mind, he still looks a yard off the pace to me!

Sat back too much 2nd half, you could see them equalising at some point, draw fair result for me in the end, which I would have taken before the game.
Don't know what Vickers has done to not get a game, a couple of dodgy subs for me? Thought Ogbeta should have started in place of Mael and would have thought Vickers for Cleary when he came off!!
Phillips definitely not up to full strength yet.
We now lose Connell for the Lincoln game after 5 yellows but Bland comes back.

Some strange choice of substitutes for me cost us as well , not sure McGoldrick for Phillips was a smart choice and as you say Vickers for Clearly was the obvious choice .

Threw 2 points away in my opinion after bossing the first half and I don't think Hourihane has covered himself in glory with his strange substitutions this afternoon .

Is Connel not suspended for the Peterboro FA Cup game ?

I could be wrong but I think accumulation of yellows is competition specific.

I thought first half we were excellent and could have easily had 2 or 3.

Second half we did sit too deep but they also played a lot better. So fair result.

The game highlighted for me that we have no outlet striker. We were clearing our lines yesterday but it was just coming straight back every time. I know that can happen but if we at least had some kind of target man to launch it up to and maybe hold it up a bit or win a foul or two, maybe we could have held on. I hope it is something we are looking at in January.

7 points from Donny away, Luton at home and Stockport away is certainly something I would have taken a few weeks ago. Hopefully we can keep the run going for the hectic fixture period.

As Nerf says Shad it's competition specific, so he's out for the Lincoln game!

For me we definitely need someone up top who can hold the ball up.
I hope they are looking at this as well as our LB issue? Dave Chalinor said in his post match comments that he targeted that area as he knew we were playing centre backs there! This is why he selected Fevrier there as he was quick, we were ok 1st half because Cleary was coming back to help Mael out, apparently Cleary had been suffering from flu this week, so when he started to tire in the 2nd half we lost that tactic and Ogbeta wasn't up to it.
Having found out Cleary had been ill, begs the question why Conor didn't replace him sooner than 70 minutes?
I'd like to know what's happened to Gent as well? He made the bench a couple of games ago but seems to have gone missing again?
I hope they are also looking at sending Rooney back and bringing in a back up centre back, however if they bring in a LB and Striker I would imagine that they will stick with Earl and Mael as back ups unless one leaves? January is not that far off now so we will find out with 10 minutes of the window left....as usual lol.
