It?s been a while since I posted , so it?d be interesting to see what everyone thinks of CH? I hope everyone?s well

It seems a pretty split decision on the BBS

I?m all for giving him some more time - there?s areas that we?ve got to improve on , but overall I don?t think it?s a car crash

I have said for a long time that these owners are incompetent and one of the mistakes they make in my opinion is the vast turnover of managers with a rinse and repeat approach , the sacking for example of Collins was plain barmy with one match to go and sat in the play offs but they seem to react to the key board warriors who will turn on a manager at the drop of a hat and now it is getting ready for the sale of season tickets they will once again try to satisfy the noisy minority and sack Conor in a bid to generate some interest with ticket sales being the reason. I would like them to stick with Conor and together formulate a plan to go forward , back him and not sack him, yes he makes mistakes but he is still learning his trade and for once I would like them to grow a pair and show some steel and invest on the pitch but if they are going to keep to their same old stumbling along approach I think they should actively try to sell the club, I strongly believe they are good honest people but maybe running a football club is not for them and if they do continue then our gradual decline will continue and we will end up in the bottom division.

I don't think I've ever heard such negativity from a Barnsley manager in my life and from one who should know better given he was captain of the team who won twice at Wembley in 6 weeks and came from the bottom of the league in December to do it .

He should be sacked , it's a completely out of my depth comment .

Things may not be great at Oakwell but we've never thrown the towel in historically and we fight on and find a way .

I agree with part of your comments but disagree over Hourihane"s comments , I think he will be certainly sacked , not because of his ability in the job , no , simply it is what our incompetent owners do , they look to deflect their mistakes which reflect on the pitch by bowing to the unhappy fans and sacking the manager , you only have to look at the sacking of Collins to prove that and the then they hope this will stimulate enough interest to sell a few season tickets , rinse and repeat and the gradual decline continues. Hourihane is saying this by telling the truth , if you think things are going to improve then basically you can forget it , he is obviously referencing the way the owners are running the show and for weeks now fans demand that Hourihane stops sugar coating it and be honest and now he is being honest the Conor haters are using it as a stick to beat him with, I have the opposite view, I say well said lad , say it as it is , he is going to get sacked anyway so why not tell some home truths , the fire stick armchair fans will stomp their feet and the owners will duly oblige , they should put the club for sale and try their best to move the club on because if they think that making Hourihane the pantomime villain will solve things they are wrong because the next poor incumbent in the post will suffer the same outcome .

I am never one for sacking managers, unless things get really bad and it is blatantly obvious that a change is needed. Hourihane is still a young coach, only a year into the job and is seemingly working incredibly hard behind the scenes. However, I am not sure in his year in charge, he has learnt from his mistakes. We are constantly conceding goals, making random changes to the lineups and showing very, very little fight in games (barring the incredibly odd glimpse). The latter I think is my biggest criticism. I am probably not of age as some on here so my journey started with us as ?battling Barnsley? in the second tier and barring the last few years, we have mostly been that. I know the money in the game has changed things but the late 2000s, 2010s we were consistently fighting above where we probably should be in the championship. We working harder than other teams, battling more and giving our all every week for 90 minutes. I just do not see that in us anymore.

For it to be March and he is basically already writing off a season that starts in August, is not really acceptable to me. Season ticket renewals must be right around the corner and they want us to shell out circa ?400 to accept mediocrity? Where is the dream and where is the hope? Every August I walk into a glorious sun baked Oakwell, especially at league 1 level, with the hope that everything will click for us and we will have an successful season. I guess it is the hope that kills you.

Now don?t get me wrong, the owners are more to blame for me. Not so much with the ?greediness? as is being spouted about by some as this is simply untrue but more with their incompetence. You only have to look at our recent head coaches to see the pattern. However, until we get someone who wants to plough millions in to our club, I?m afraid we are stuck with them.

I am expecting Conor to be relieved of his duties this coming week. As much as the owners will always try to deflect any blame, I think if Conor had kept his thoughts quiet, this would not have been the case but as he voiced them, he will be gone

Once again I find myself agreeing with some of your points especially about Hourihane not improving as a coach but I disagree about him flipping it on to the owners , I actually think he is telling the truth and saying it as it is, I also think yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back , with Bradshaw getting a late injury and Didzzy running on empty he was left with absolutely nothing up top , they sold his star striker and basically replaced him with nothing , it was a financial decision and not a football one, it was madness and whats more he knows he has been shafted and it is going to be worse next year so in my mind he finally got something right and had the b@lls to come clean with the situation, sometimes the truth is unpalatable and for me this is one of the times . I have been saying all season that these owners need to sell up as they are implementing a gradual decline , they do not back the manager and when we fail they deflect the blame on to the manager well this time the manager has got the first punch in, he has gone up in my estimation , he will be sacked but that was always going to happen and whilst ever these owners are running the show they will do it to the next HC and the one after him and the one after him, whilst ever they are here the decline will continue until we are struggling in the bottom division and then a some of our fans might realise that calling for the managers head every season might not be the wisest move . I know I will be in the minority with my views but I have never been one for joining a flock of sheep and I refuse to pile in when the lynch mob want blood, I try to step back and look through a wider lens and to me our current demise is and has been for a long time down to the owners and for once someone has had the guts to call them out , well done Conor !!

Do you think this is something said that was agreed by the board beforehand?

I don’t know how true this is but I’d heard that CH used to live with the Crynes when he first came here , and while ever the Crynes have a say in things at oakwell he won’t be going

What doesn’t stack up with the budget comments is that Donny have the second lowest budget and beat us, but if we go the the top or second placed in the table and lose, it’s money related!

The information contained therein explains why we are a regressive club with, in my opinion, little or no hope of reversing the trend of decline. We are staying afloat because of the capital input from the owners according to this report and that surely is not a sustainable situation.
The quality of our team isnt capable of competing at anywhere above mid table league 1 and it wont be until the financial situation improves. How you achieve that is a huge challenge and I have no suggestions to offer. That is firmly in the owners domain.

I dont expect to see any changes any time soon and firmly expect to see a further degradation of our playing personnel this summer.

How a coach is expected to achieve success in this environment is beyond my comprehension, its an impossible task. I can see some justification in tinkering with starting 11's and positions in the hope that something clicks. The reality is if you arent provided with the tools, you cant do the job!
Our current coach has made mistakes but he has not got an experienced coach to turn to far advice or second opinions. Keogh and Harban arent the answer, he needs an Eric Winstanley esque side kick to offer some experience.
We also need a leader on the pitch and Im not confident that Connell is the man for the job. There are times when we clearly seem to lack leadership leading to so many winning positions thrown away. An old head would have offered solutions to the threat of the oppositon,generally thats called game management and we havent got any.

In summary I dont see any hope of a reversal of our decline without a radical shake up at the club or sale to an ambitious owner

Totally agree with your summary Ethel and as I have said earlier I admire Conor for saying it as it is, his words do not make him a better coach as obvious improvements are required in that dept however in my eyes I totally respect him for giving an honest assessment and do not forget his comments were made directly after we had just lost and performed poorly with the crowd baying for blood so he came out with some home truths and has since got slaughtered for it, I simply do not get it, fans cry out for honesty and when they get it they do not like it, he has taken abuse and stick which in my opinion is aimed in the wrong direction and once again the suits are getting a free ride when the blame should be heading in their direction and not at every HC they set on as the fall guy, whilst ever they are running the show the decline will continue.
