  • Romared Match Thoughts Barnsley v Bolton Wanderers

Always keenly contested affairs between our old foes from over the hill and ourselves and I reckon this one will be no different .

It's one of those games early in the season that you feel if you play really well and win you might be in for a really good season , a real confidence boosting tonic .

Defensively we aren't yet where we'd like to be and I reckon we are probably going to have to score 3 again to win the game .

Personally I think we will be pleasantly surprised by the defence? Mael was wearing a protective boot on Tuesday and looks unlikely to play! With him out of the team I believe the defence will be a lot stronger.
Back four is likely to be Watson, Shepherd, Earl and Ogbeta.
I may be wrong but we look very shaky with Mael back there, it's as if he and his team mates are waiting for him to make a mistake, sort of playing in fear when the ball goes near him.

Team selection will be interesting , whilst our back four provides the most worries it will be interesting to see who he plays in the midfield with fans talking about who he leaves out as opposed to who he brings in,especially as Bland comes into consideration with the right back spot looking to have been sorted with Watson does he play the very impressive Bland in the middle ? , does he bring Russel in and what about Kelly ? what ever he decides gives me the impression that we should have a very strong bench to which may play a key part in this fixture . McGoldrick and DKD provide the fire power but it will be a tight affair and the draw could well be on the cards , we will see.

Great heart and fight showed there by our lads to hang on. I think a draw was probably about fair in the end.

I love Yoganathan being tenacious and having that bit of bite about him but when on a yellow, I said she should’ve come off at half time.

Luca was outstanding today and like his levels under Duff. Shoutout to Vickers too as he was everywhere and was gliding past defenders all day. Shepherd and Earl both deserve a shoutout too as they were under serious pressure at the end but held strong. That goal line clearance was every bit as good as a goal from Shepherd.

Fair enough result on reflection , I thought Yoganathan was really hard done by , he got plenty of the ball for me but then again I can still remember when this was a man's game .

Decent enough start to the season where we've faced a fair bit of adversity and still come away with points .

          Plenty to be encouraged by.

Good overall performance and on reflection just about fair although I think the sending off influenced the result big time , I also thought it was very harsh but we cannot only learn from it, it actually also reflected the incompetence of the referee , he gave a soft yellow card which then meant a red but then let the trainer on to give treatment to the player giving an oscar performance for writhing about, when he restarted the game he allowed the player to stay on instead of leaving the field of play for the compulsory time out, who then proceeded to run about like Lynford Christie , he appeared not to understand that rule although he had applied it earlier in the game . I thought there were some very good individual performances , none more than captain Luca who was outstanding , our left back on loan from Plymouth and Vickers who was extremely lively all game , a special mention for our two centre backs today , in recent times we have struggled but I thought Shepherd and Earle both had very good games , overall I think the performance was very good and if our squad does not get dismantled before the deadline then I would expect both these clubs will be in or around the mix come next April/ May , but alas I still expect our owners to put a damper on my new found optimism , we will see.

A point gained rather than 2 lost even though Bolton equalised fairly late on in my opinion .

The recruitment looks way better than the last two season's including McGoldrick who took his goal very well , a quality finish from a player who still has that ability .

Early days but encouraging none the less , I dare say the lesser expectations this season aren't such a bad thing .

A quick view from the other side guys. Whilst you were very fortunate not to concede another at the end it was overall I think a fair result. There’s probably a chance that the sending off made a difference but I actually think we’d have scored anyway before the end. I thought Luca was outstanding and the best player on the field and some of his set pieces are almost undefendable. We should have re-signed him from Celtic and in fact if we can offload the likes of Morley, Sheehan and McAtee, I’d sign him now but I don’t think that’s likely. You defended much better than I expected and looked pretty resolute. As for us we’re not the finished article yet and with so many new players and we haven’t quite gelled so far but when we do I expect us to be well up there through the season. As for yourselves, I think it’s essential you hold onto the likes of Luca, DKD and Philips and if you can do that and maybe add a little up front too, I’d expect you to be there as well. Good luck for the season guys, though not too much!
