We have a top heavy squad with some mediocre ones amongst them, I see pruning the squad down as important as bringing in some new talent, getting the wage bill down and some sensible recruitment will hopefully be the way but Conor for me has to have a shopping list and not the usual data/ spreadsheet nonsense which has been a disaster in recent times, leave it him and his staff to identify targets and let the suits do the paperwork.

Barnsley are the latest club to show an interest in Crystal Palace young keeper Owen Goodman, with the Premier League side expected to let the keeper leave Selhurst Park on loan this summer.

Goodmans time with the Wimbledon was particularly successful, as he starred for Johnnie Jacksons side as they won promotion to League One, keeping 24 clean sheets in the process, which included a shut-out in the 1-0 play-off final win over Walsall.

      Bolton also sniffing.

BARNSLEY are hopeful that they will start to bring in some new players around the same time as the squad returns for pre... Local News Barnsley FC Barnsley South Yorkshire

There’s some good out of contract players still knocking about so hopefully we can get some of them in shortly.

The player(s) to be sold could be interesting. I think Phillips is nailed on to join a championship side, probably Preston. DKD will obviously have his suitors but I’m hoping we hold out on him and either keep him or get an incredibly inflated fee. Russell and Connell probably the only other players that could be in the mix to be sold.

          Yorkshire Post:

League Two outfit Milton Keynes Dons are reportedly plotting a move to sign Stephen Humphrys from Barnsley.
The 27-year-old only arrived at Oakwell from Wigan Athletic last year and was a regular fixture in the Reds frontline throughout his debut season.

However, he only penned a one-year contract and his future has been up in the air since the publication of Barnsley?s retained list.

Not sure about this one myself but apparently he was outstanding last season , I can only imagine that one of our 2 rookie keepers is being earmarked for a loan spell somewhere as part of his development , we shall see .

                Stephen Humphrys

I want to thank every single player, coach, member of staff and most importantly the brilliant fans at @BarnsleyFC for the time I spent at the club. I've made some friends for life and memories to last a life time. I realised fairly early after the summer that the club weren't in a position to continue the journey so unfortunately, it has come to an end. I believe Conor is the man to take the club forward and I want to thank him for trusting me during his time. All the very best for the season and beyond.
                Humps

He has had 9 clubs already at 27.

I assume by his comments that we were not in a position to meet his wage demands for a new contract which in my opinion is a shame but highlights that the puse strings are tight, I personally liked him especially after Coner took over and appeared to get the best out of him and he leaves with my best wishes , I also think he has shown a bit of class by making his farewell statement , good luck in the future Stephen.

I’m not sure how I feel about Humphrys leaving. He has that bit of spark and has some real “wow” moments but also has periods where he doesn’t seem bothered. He’s clearly a bit of a mercenary in terms of his contracts and transfers but who can blame him? It’s his job and his pay packet at the end of the day.

In terms of us that leaves another starting position we need to replace. Wingers we already have includes Jalo, Cotter and Farrugia I believe. I’m only really confident that Jalo can be a regular starter for us. Maybe Farrugia once he can stay off the treatment table.

The keeper on loan from QPR sounds like he could be a good deal as he got a lot of rave reviews last season in this division.

I know it’s still early doors in the window but hopefully this week we can have a little bit of action in terms of both ins and outs to get the squad a bit more balanced for pre season.

To pick up on Cotter and Farrugia , I would personally like to see them both moved on , Baz is entertaining but has absolutely no final ball or finish in his locker and we are not going to make any level of improvement if we are looking at players of this level to take us forward , Farrugia is green and injury prone and in my opinion as of yet not division 1 standard, get them off the wage bill for me .

Optimistic about the keeper signing. Sounds like he had a good season last time out in this division. Let?s just hope our defence in front of him will be a bit more organised.

Couple of other rumours going about still. Lewis Mayo from Kilmarnock and Josh Koroma who left Huddersfield this summer. Not sure how much credibility in either but would be nice to get a couple more in for early pre season.

Do you guys think you’ll be able to keep hold of Keillor-Dunn given he’s been linked with a few clubs including Wrexham? I’d absolutely love him at Bolton but doubt we could afford him but what about a swop and cash deal for McAtee back?
