Likeable lad is our Baz but I am not too upset with this one , I would also like to see O"Keefe moved on if possible but I think there will be a few more ins and outs before we have the big kick off.

Baz isn't going to take us to the next level , I wish him well at Notts but these are the decisions that have to be made , the question is of course can we bring better players in than those we are letting go ?

Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of David McGoldrick, subject to EFL registration.
The experienced striker arrives at Oakwell on a one-year deal after amassing over 600 appearances in English football, including promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield United.

The 37-year-old was most recently named in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Year following an impressive campaign with Notts County, scoring 17 goals on route to the play-offs.

I can predict that half our fan base will not be happy with this signing because of the age factor but personally I am pleased, I havn"tt forgotten what a difference Hendry and Wilkinson made to us and that was at a higher level , age is fine as long as his fitness levels are good, used sparingly his experience could be invaluable , we will see.

McGoldrick’s age will obviously go against him and I cannot see him playing 90 minutes every week, especially if we are playing with a high press. However, the experience he offers, his ability holding up the ball and his ball striking are all still excellent for this level. He got 17 in league 2 last season and I’m fairly sure he got the fans player of the season and got in the division team of the year. I think it’s a good signing.

We signed Cleary (I am assuming anyway) for the potential. We have signed McGoldrick for the here and now.

He will probably play 1 game, retire and become Hourihane's assistant, then take over as Manager when Conor gets the sack!!!!!!!!

Fully agree Shads, Jason Scotland also springs to mind.

Could be a useful acquisition in my opinion , ok he's not going to play every game and he's either coming off the bench or going in the other direction on 65 minutes .

Given the budget we have it's a decent signing if fans look at it for what it is and where we are right now with finances.

Quite agree animal, this is a very astute signing, he didn’t start every match last season at Notts but still bagged 17 goals, many of them important ones. I’m surprised he’s left Notts to be honest though because he said he’d gone back there to finish at his boyhood club but clearly something’s changed. Anyway I think it’s a very good signing and I’d have had him at the Reebok no problem.

Doug O’Kane: from the Wycombe end.

I understand that Barnsley have accepted a fee of ?1.3 million from Wycombe for Luca Connell.

I am led to believe that the offer was accepted this morning.

If so I am gutted , I like Connel especially when there is no other player who does the dirty stuff like he does , he may not have been at his best but the fact that a team in our league who are going for it think that he will strengthen there squad and by the same token one of their rivals has now had their squad weakened says it all , they are going for it and have taken our captain whilst we now will try and replace him with a player of less quality , it does not bode well .

It never will bode well with this ownership. Their interest lies with covering operating costs as far as they can and not with going for it as you put it.

Understand - contrary to reports elsewhere - Barnsley have not accepted a bid from Wycombe Wanderers for midfielder Luca Connell.
