  • Our previous transfer activity is looking pretty ordinary right now.
We all knew it but the positives are that the shelves of excess stock are clearing.

Let?s hope the quality is in the pipeline.

To be honest Ethel I have been pleasantly surprised by our deals so far and I am quite impressed with who we have brought in, I would like to see a new right back , centre back and an old fashioned number 9 up top and hopefully hang on to our 4 saleable assets although I am still expecting one if not two of these to be sold , we will see.

      • Having seen so many failures in the recent past, eventually leading us to have to offload those who didnt come up to scratch, I cant feel excited about our business. Ill judge after ive seen them play.

There have been some success too but they are far outweighed by the failures.

I hope they are getting it right this time but its been clear to see the gradual decline in standard over the last 3 or so years. It all starts again on Saturday and like you Shads, I would like to see more new faces before then, especially in the positions you highlight. It looks like they fancy another winger but there are other gaps to fill.

Of course its important to retain our better players but it seems like slaes will be made to balance the finances. Time will tell on that one.

        • Barnsley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Patrick Kelly on a three-year deal, with a further year option in the Club’s favour.
The 20-year-old arrives from Premier League West Ham United after three years with the Hammers.
The midfielder started his career in his native Northern Ireland with Coleraine and has represented the national team at U19s.
His performances in the Northern Ireland Premier League attracted the attention of West Ham, signing for the Hammers in June 2022.
Kelly immediately made an impact within the youth setup, playing a key role in the side’s historic double as the young Hammers won the FA Youth Cup and the U18 Premier League South during the 2022/23 campaign.
During the following campaign our new man appeared in all ten of Northern Ireland U21s' UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers against Luxembourg, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Serbia and England.
In the summer of 2024, Kelly joined fellow South Yorkshire outfit Doncaster Rovers on loan, finishing with 38 appearances and three goals as Rovers finished top of League Two, earning promotion back to League One after three years.

Sporting Director, Mladen Sormaz, said, “Patrick is a player we’ve tracked for some time, he brings a different profile to our midfield and we’re thrilled to bring him to Oakwell on a permanent transfer.
“He’s shown real maturity for his age, with a strong grounding at West Ham and valuable senior experience contributing to Doncaster’s title win last season. We believe he has all the attributes to develop into a top midfielder and we’re excited to help him take the next step in his career here at Barnsley.”
Head Coach, Conor Hourihane, said, “We’re really pleased to add Patrick to the group.
“He’s a dynamic, intelligent midfielder who fits the way we want to play. He’s had a brilliant grounding at youth international level and has already tasted success in a promotion-winning team, which will stand him in good stead.
“We’re looking forward to working with him and helping him settle into the squad.”
Upon penning a long-term deal with the Club, Kelly added, “It’s a really good feeling.
“I’m really happy to get it over the line and I just can’t wait to get going.”

          • Enough with the midfielders already, unless a sale/sales is/are imminent.
IMHO we still need a RB, a CB and a proper CF.
So it’s either get yer wallets out if you can find and unlock them or sell the assets.
            Anybody except DKD.
Connell, Phillips/ Russell, all can be replaced, DKD not as easily want at least ?5m for him.

I have seen that but I will be disappointed if we sell any player to a potential rival but if any player moves on to the championship then fair play , they deserve a crack at a higher level and although it would be great to hang on to our better players I do not begrudge anyone the chance to better themselves , it will be interesting to see what the next 24hrs brings.

                  • Not sure how we?ll get to the next level if we continually sell the players who are capable of getting us there.

It?s my major frustration with these owners.

                    Answers on a postcard?

I think we know if the right bid for Philips was received we'd probably lose him but I draw the line at selling him to a potential promotion chasing rival as you have alluded to Shad , we've done this before when we let Moncur go to Luton when Stendel was HC .

                      • Rumours around Bolton about a return for John McAtee. How would you guys feel about that as he doesn’t seem to have fitted in at the Reebok? Maybe as replacement for DKD if he goes?

                        • Don Ballard who we were linked with has gone to Orient

Also Luton just signed right sided midfielder/winger from Aberdeen. Might mean Phillips rumour is just that!

                          • Hope we keep all of “The Big Three” and get a CB & CF in.
However if one of them has to go I would prefer it to be Phillips.
Also Russell could go, he looks unhappy. Goals 2 celebrations nil.

Yeah let's hope so ehh kid lol, but that still bugs me as well.
That our targeted players these days, are going to clubs who were just about unheard of, only 18 months ago!!. 😧

                              • Well here we are 2.5 hrs to go and not a pot washed.
Now we start scouring what scraps are left and try to rush them through before 7pm.
                                As usual.
Aren’t we lucky to have such good owners?
