  • Transfer? Add-ons?

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned transfer deal ? It was a straight forward affair. Managers agreed the fee and sorted out the players wages. The player signed the deal after a medical, and that was it. Job done.
These days there are all sorts of extras added on to make it more complicated than it should be. This can range, from winning a title, staying clear of relegation, whether the player gets an international cap, whether the player plays so many games, the list really does go on and on. Give me the old fashioned way any day of the week- it was so much simpler.

malwayne, those were the days before agents got involved in creaming offf whatever they could from whatever deal they could wangle. Those days will never see the light of day again because greed is consuming everything in football and the agents will continue to pursue every path possible to make more and more money.

It’s the contract negotiations malwayne, every agent under the sun wants every contingency covered, I for one cannot blame them. Money talks and that is the be all and end all of the players movements.

Then you've got the transfer fee itself, usually paid in instalments over the duration of the contract. Even if you have an idea of the fee itself you have no idea how much actual money moves between the two clubs at the time of the deal and how much is deferred for one or more years.

It was itemised in our last accounts, I forget the exact details now, but it didn't make for good reading, we were due to pay out far more in the near future than we were due to receive, quite a lot more as I recall.

Not sure how much agents are involved in determining the sale price agreed between clubs as they are more involved in the “personal terms” negotiations which are separate BT - or is that what you’re saying?
We’ve had at least 4 situations recently in which we’ve agreed a fee with another club to sign a player and we’ve walked away because the agent was taking the piss.

We also have situations like the one with Vitinho where we are simply not getting paid for the player's sale and FIFA do the square root of pfhuck all about it.
