  • R.i.p. Willie irvine

Absolutely gutted to learn of the passing of Willie, one of our greatest footballers we ever produced. A great goalscorer for us during the sixties/seventies until his career was cut short by that dirty Everton Bastid Johnny Morrisey breaking his leg. Wonderful memories of playing football with him when he lived with my Aunt and Uncle in Burnley when coming over from N.Ireland.
Condolences to Rita and all his family. Xxx

Willie was most certainly a clarets legend.

I got to know him over the years from being a frequent visitor to the James Hargreaves hospitality. Willie was always about, and he was a really lovely fella

One of our most outstanding players. He was a great. Probably in a golden period for our club. One funny thing that I remember. He scored a goal against Stoke and was clearly berating himself because he had scored a goal against his brother who was keeper for Stoke. The Irvine Lochead combination was pure gold.

Great player and will be sadly missed. Irvine & Lochhead were in tandem in attack for my very first game at Turf Moor in 1964. RIP.
