He had such a high reputation in the game that it seems a bit strange to say it, but I thought he was a tad under-rated, he was one of the best 2 or 3 footballers I ever saw, and I saw virtually all of the greats.

I have a mate who is a German national and lives in Hamburg. He says the best two he ever saw was Uwe Seeler and Kevin Keegan. High praise indeed.

sinkov, I have to agree with your statement, he was a far better player than many thought.
BT, I was stationed in Germany when he was at Hamburg and he really was rated by them and by many, many German fans. He performed well on a weekly basis and was very much appreciated by Hamburg fans.
