  • Giving the ball away

    I'm going to quote BT

"My biggest single gripe is why do we give the ball away so much? "

Spot on BT ,both myself and my grandson watched the game and as we talked on WhatsApp (he lives in Hampshire) we both said the same thing as well. The number of times we gave them possession back in our own half was ridiculous. Some absolutely silly and suicidal passes to the opposition puts our defence under pressure straight away.

And Florentino is the worst culprit Alfie, swiftly followed by the "King of the Suicide Pass" Hector Hannibal.

You my friend are deluded - people who never make a bad pass don’t exist and if they make less than most they wouldn’t be playing for Burnley.

Edwards Hannibal lose possesion with stray passes but their thought is positive and forward the others make less because it’s much easier passing sideways and backwards to static players.

I watched Hannibal the other night close down and win a ball - he got his head up didn’t panic but his team mates just stand and watch - he played it slightly short in the end but the point is the team mates don’t force the pass - move with purpose into space they just want it sent backwards so they can slow the game down to a pace where the opposition can squeeze up and the cycle starts again.

I’d take a player all day every day who tries to do the right thing - I posted re Edwards losing possesion bad pass etc but I’m willing to accept that because he’s trying to get us up the field and to score goals.

I’ve said before aside of his discipline Hannibal is the best footballer we have - he has time balance poise always looks forwards and you have found your next target to slag off - I can siggest another 7/8 before you start on Hannibal.

      Ridiculous

I hear what you say about Hannibal being our only proper presser and ball winner in forward positions, but the way he forever spills possession is bloody frustrating.

He is also a liability with issues that need addressing before he is able to hold down a regular 1st team

But saying that he contributes more than his midfield companions Florentino and Ugochukwa who are to much alike and should be used better in a different system. Purely Parkers fault who insist on playing 541

Hannibal is very easy to love because of his energy and commitment to the cause. It's the constant rushes of blood to his head that bothers me army88. He needs to calm down, take a chill pill and be the very best player he can be.

I agree BT but you can’t knock it out of the man - Parker needs to find a way of channeling his rush of blood into other things

However - I know he’s not without fault but to me he has the attributes to be a very good player - he needs to be surrounded with runners and willing competitive players who want to go forwards - I believe he gets frustrated in games when others just stand and wander what all the fuss is about.

I know we blame the players and trust me when I say they aren’t the brightest ( most cases ) but they literally need to be told what to do and where we are know they’re getting that but the information given to them is negative and poor ( back to Parker - who incidentally will think the draw with united was a triumph - when in reality we could have got thumped until Anthony decided to apply himself again.

I am beginning to think that a big part of the problem is that Hannibal gets frustrated. With his teammates. He is the one busting a gut, covering the park, trying to do something positive. So often he has little, if any, support. He cannot carry the team!
